Police dispatched to Gucci Fashion Show afterparty after receiving complaints about loud noises and lighting
Residents living near the building where the Gucci Show afterparty was held reported inconvenience to the police.
On May 16th, Gucci held the 2024 Cruise Fashion Show at Geunjeongjeon Hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Jongno-gu, Seoul and continued with an afterparty at a nearby D building.
Gucci website introduced this event as the first-ever cruise fashion show to be held in Asia. Titled “Cosmogonie”, this fashion show presented a new collection by Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele. The collection is said to have been inspired by mythological stories related to constellations, just as the name “Cosmogonie” suggests, meaning the origin of the universe.
The fashion show made headlines as it was an opportunity for Korea to promote their traditional culture. Many celebrities, such as “Gucci ambassador” singer-actress IU, actors Lee Jung Jae, Kim Hye Soo, Kim Hee Ae, NewJeans Hanni, etc., attended the show and created hot topics. Hallyu stars, including Elizabeth Olsen, Dakota Johnson, Saoirse Ronan, etc., also presented at the event.
At around 9:56 p.m., netizen A posted on Twitter, asking “How can I make a report over noise pollution?”. Netizen A, who appears to be a resident living near the D building where the Gucci fashion show afterparty was held, took a photo of the party event from a long distance and posted it online. They complained, “It was taken with a 10x zoom. The music is loud enough to be heard clearly from my room. It’s like they installed the speakers outside. Laser lights are also flashing everywhere.” At 11:52 p.m., A made another post, saying “I think I will really go crazy. I don’t understand why they could let the sound be heard so loudly on the outside. This is a residential area. How can this even happen? Shouldn’t a luxury brand behave more appropriately?”
Looking at the video posted online, the noise was beyond imagination. The sound of music was loud as if it was taken near a concert hall. Lightning and other elements also caused discomfort to nearby residents.
In fact, the police received numerous complaints so they dispatched a team there.
At around 1:30 a.m., another netizen shared a video of the afterparty scene, saying “They kept being so noisy until midnight and the police were finally dispatched there. I was wondering what event it was, then it turns out to be the afterparty of the Gucci show at Gyeongbokgung Palace.”
As a result, harsh criticism flooded online. Internet users on SNS and online communities commented, “The brand’s image improved a lot after the fashion show but it’s getting cursed at due to the afterparty”, “Why are they causing such inconvenience on a weekday evening?”, “If it was later than 10 p.m., shouldn’t they at least pay attention to the noise in the surrounding areas?”, etc.
