Bong Joon-ho’s film “Parasite” was excluded from ‘ANNIVERSARY FESTA’ event due to Lee Sun-kyun’s drug case

Lotte Cinema organized October-November ANNIVERSARY FESTA to mark the 10th release anniversary of various films, including “About Time”, “Gravity”, “Snowpiercer”, etc.

Parasite” and “Memories of Murder” were also scheduled for special screenings in the exhibition dedicated to director Bong Joon-ho. However, “Parasite” has recently been removed from the screening lineup.

It is believed to be the negative effect of the ongoing drug investigation of actor Lee Sun-kyun, one of the lead actors in “Parasite”.

Earlier in September, the police found evidence that Lee Sun-kyun took drugs in the process of confirming the reports on illegal drug distribution at a membership hostess bar in Gangnam, Seoul. Lee Sun-kyun is accused of having been administered various drugs, including marijuana, with hostess bar director A since the beginning of this year.

The police conducted a simple drug test and Lee Sun-kyun tested negative. However, Lee Sun-kyun’s hair and urine have been sent to the National Forensic Service for a thorough examination.

“Parasite” depicts the uncontrollable meeting between two families that begins when Ki-woo (Choi Woo-sik), the eldest son of the unemployed Ki-taek (Song Kang-ho), steps into the house of President Park (Lee Sun-kyun) for a highly-paid private teacher interview.
