After sweeping Daesang awards at the 2023 MAMA and MMA, NewJeans has confirmed to appear in the 2023 Asia Artist Awards
The Asia Artist Awards (hereinafter referred to as AAA) is an event that honors outstanding achievements and contributions of Asian artists in the fields of music, television, and film. It is considered one of the most anticipated awards ceremonies in the South Korean entertainment industry due to its grand line-up every year.
After South Korea, Vietnam, and Japan, the Philippines is the fourth Asian country where AAA will be hosted in. In particular, the 2023 AAA will take place at the Philippines Arena, recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest indoor arena in the world with a capacity of up to 55,000 people.
Like other years, the 2023 AAA continues to gather numerous actors and singers from South Korea and talented artists in other Asian nations.
However, unlike other awards where specific criterias for each category are announced, most prizes at AAA rely entirely on fan votes, whilst the rest are awarded based on undisclosed criterias.
According to the organizers, in most of the awards categories, voting data are collected from global fans across Asia, Europe, South America, and North America. The preliminary round of AAA voting concluded successfully on November 9, and the final voting for Favorite Male/Female Actor and Favorite Male/Female Singer awards took place from November 14 to November 30.
The top artists in the final voting round will be selected as winners in each category, with the results announced at the award ceremony. This competition is considered fierce among fandoms.
Notably, NewJeans, who set a record by sweeping 4 Daesang awards at the 2023 MAMA and the 2023 MMA received surprisingly modest votes in the preliminary round. This implies that NewJeans may not make it to the list of winning female artists at the 2023 AAA.
Meanwhile, two Japanese girl groups, Sakurazaka46 and NiziU, are dominating the top spots with overwhelming vote percentages.
