Netizens Criticize Friends Celebrating “Illegally Filming Ex-Lover” Rapper Bassagong’s Prison Release

Friends of rapper Bassagong, who was imprisoned for filming and distributing illegal videos, celebrated his prison release

On April 12th, several photos showing Bassagong’s acquaintances gathering and celebrating the rapper’s release from prison spread in online communities such as “DogDrip” and DC Inside”.

The photos were first released by a friend of Bassagong on Instagram. The male rapper was celebrating his release from prison with a bright expression amid congratulations from his family members and friends. In addition, a friend even showed a picture capturing Bassagong receiving tofu as a gift from a family member.

In response, netizens expressed discomfort, saying “Is that a thing for them to brag about? Why are they gathering and filming videos like that?”, “Why are they proud of a person being imprisoned for illegally filming? I can’t believe they are filming videos to celebrate his release from prison”, “I feel so sorry for the victimㅠㅠ”, etc.

Bassagong was prosecuted in September 2022 on charges of filming body parts of his ex-girlfriend while she was sleeping in Yangyang, Gangwon-do, in 2018 and sharing the videos in a Kakaotalk group chat room with 10 friends.

In the first trial, the court sentenced the male rapper to one year in prison, ordered him to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program, and imposed restrictions on employment at welfare facilities for children, teenagers, and disabled people in three years. Bassagong appealed, claiming that the sentence was too heavy, but the court rejected his appeal and maintained their original ruling in the second trial.

Earlier in February, Bassagong released an album with 10 songs composed and written by himself despite being in prison.
