In July 2022, Hong Kong’s entertainment industry was shaken by a horrifying stage accident during boy group Mirror’s concert. A 600kg LED screen suspended above the stage suddenly collapsed, striking dancers.
Among the victims, Mo Li Kai-yin suffered the most severe injuries, leaving him permanently paralyzed despite undergoing 10 major surgeries to repair spinal damage and nerve injuries.

Three years later, Mo Li Kai-yin remains hospitalized, and his health has taken a turn for the worse. On September 2, his father revealed that his son’s condition is life-threatening, with severe complications stemming from the accident. Mo Li Kai-yin has lost bowel and bladder function, cannot urinate on his own, and no longer has the ability to regulate his body temperature. His family must constantly monitor him, using ice to prevent dangerously high fevers.
Mo Li Kai-yin is currently undergoing advanced treatments abroad, including stem cell therapy and brain-computer interface programs, in hopes of regaining some mobility. His parents have been by his side for the past three years, turning the hospital into their second home.
Despite faint signs of improvement in 2023, when he was able to train with an exoskeleton and showed minor muscle response, his overall condition remains critical. Doctors later implanted nerve-stimulating chips, but progress has been slow.

Adding to the family’s pain, three contractors responsible for the stage construction were acquitted after three years of investigation. Mo’s family expressed outrage, declaring it unacceptable that no one was held accountable for the accident that left their son permanently disabled. They have filed an appeal, demanding monthly compensation of HKD 73,000 (approx. USD 9,300) to cover medical costs.
Before the tragedy, Mo Li Kai-yin was regarded as one of Hong Kong’s most promising dancers and choreographers. He had worked with top artists, entered the spotlight through the survival show King Maker in 2018, and later became Mirror’s main dancer. Known for his captivating stage presence and technical skills, he had a bright future and plans to marry his longtime girlfriend So Ching — dreams now put on indefinite hold.
The accident not only robbed Mo Li Kai-yin of his career but also left fans devastated as they continue to follow his long, painful journey of survival and recovery.
