“Military service evasion” Ravi attended the first trial, “I made a foolish and cowardly choice”

The first trial for Ravi on charges of violating the Military Service Act was held today (April 11th).

On April 11th, Ravi, who was indicted on charges of evading military service by faking medical records, attended the trial held at the Seoul Southern District Court with 7 other defendants, including Nafla. Ravi appeared in a black suit. He almost completely covered his face with long bangs and a white mask.

Revealing his final statement, Ravi said, “(At the time I attempted to evade military service) I was the only profitable artist in my company, and the implementation of the contract signed before the Covid-19 pandemic was also delayed”, adding “If I had started serving in the military in that situation, it would have been considered a violation of the contract that could result in a huge penalty. That’s why I made such a foolish and cowardly choice”. He continued, “Through the investigations and trials, I realized how serious my mistake was and that I have hurt so many people. I apologize to the patients with epilepsy and their families who must have been hurt by my action. I will live the rest of my life expiating my wrongdoing.”

Ravi was put on trial on charges of conspiring with military service broker Goo (47 years old), who was arrested in December last year, to evade military service by getting diagnosed with fake epilepsy symptoms. According to the prosecution, Ravi and the co-CEO of his agency paid Goo about 50 million won in March 2021 after receiving a military service evasion scenario. Ravi pretended to suddenly faint according to the scenario and demanded outpatient treatment instead of being hospitalized in the emergency room after reporting to 119.

At the trial, the prosecution demanded a two-year imprisonment for both Ravi and GROOVL1N’s co-CEO Kim (38 years old), who assisted him in attempting military service evasion. The prosecution also asked the court to sentence rapper Nafla, who is also being investigated for military service evasion, to two years and six months in prison.

The prosecution stated, “The nature of the crime is considerably bad in that they applied for discharge through organized recruitment with a military service broker. Especially in the cases of Ravi and Nafla, they committed the crime despite having postponed it for a long time after the initial military service judgment.”

The prosecution also revealed the reason for the sentence, stating, “They are confessing in court, but they maintained a consistent attitude of excuse or denial before presenting objective evidence during the investigation.

Rapper Nafla attended the trial on this day. He stated, “My hard-earned popularity was very precious to me, and I was afraid that if I suddenly enlisted and suspended my activities, all the hard-earned popularity would disappear.” He also requested leniency, saying, “If given a single chance, I will fulfill my military duty diligently.”

Nafla is also accused of conspiring with Groovl1n’s CEO Kim, broker Gu, and attempting to receive an unsuitable service judgment. Although Nafla was assigned as a social service worker at the Seoul Seocho-gu Office, it was revealed that he did not show up for work for 141 days.

The prosecution sentenced Seocho-gu Office officials A (36), B (45), and C (54), who are accused of manipulating Nafla’s daily duty status report, to a fine of 10 million won each. Song, a company employee accused of committing military service corruption in a similar way to Nafla, was sentenced to one year in prison.

The trial of Seoul Regional Military Manpower Administration duty officer Kang (58) and Seocho-gu Office official Yeom (58), who were arrested and charged with falsifying attendance logs and related documents to make it appear as if Nafla had shown up for work, was postponed to May 4th.
