“Leggings goddess” trot singer Jiwon confessed about being verbally abused by a male senior in the past
Trot singer Jiwon revealed that she used to be harshly criticized by a male senior due to her unique style.
Trot singer Jiwon, who is loved for her leggings outfits, appeared on Channel S’s entertainment program “Attack on Sisters”, which aired January 31st, as a storyteller.
Everyone was surprised when Jiwon said she wanted to “tear” all the leggings that made her feel confident. Revealing that the first time she wore leggings as a stage costume was 10 years ago, the singer explained, “At that time, it was an unconventional outfit in the trot music world. It was when female singers wore skirts to look gentle and feminine.”
Jiwon then confessed her experience of being criticized by trot seniors because of her bold outfits.
She said, “When I visited the seniors to greet them, they turned away. Some seniors didn’t even open the door to accept my greeting”, adding “I took the elevator with some older sister in the trot music industry. After leaving the elevator, they turned around and said, ‘Hey, I really hate your look’”.
Jiwon also revealed the incident in which she was scolded by a male senior. She shared, “A male senior shouted at me, ‘You trashy human’, ‘Who do you think you are?’, ‘People are cursing at trot artists because of you’, etc.”
Jiwon said when that man saw her go down the stage to communicate with the audience, he nagged her, “Why are you making such a fuss?”.
Recalling the situation, Jiwon said, “At that time, the staff hurriedly told me to stop and move out”, adding “However, that senior didn’t give in. He met the PD and complained, ‘Why did you bring that kid here and cause this situation? I shouldn’t have come here’”, drawing regrets from viewers.
Jiwon said, “‘She must be very arrogant. She doesn’t have skills. Is she a star who sings with her body?’… He must have thought about me that way”. She also confessed that was just creating her own image by combining her enthusiastic appearance on the stage with unconventional outfits.
Jiwon confessed that there were people who encouraged her, saying “I even asked my stylist whether I should continue wearing such clothes, but they said, ‘Don’t do this because of those people. You will become a unique singer. I believe in you’”.
Jiwon said she met the male senior who verbally abused her later, saying “I watched his performance. He went downstage and stood up on his chair to communicate with the audience”.
Jang Young Ran smiled and commented, “He learned that from Jiwon”. Jiwon said, “After seeing that, I forgave him”, drawing admiration from the MCs.
Jiwon continued, “However, the wound in the past comes to my mind every time I see the leggings. I ripped them using a scissor. I saw some bad comments again. That’s when I really collapsed”, adding “But I can’t just tear my leggings apart because I think I would hurt them”, showing her affection for leggings.
She added, “But some events want me to wear leggings. They asked me to wear various leggings with different companies’ colors and I can’t even throw the leggings away”.
