Actor Lee Dong Gun will return as an actor after 4 years through “Celebrity”. This is his first work after divorce.
On June 26th, the press conference of Netflix’s original series “Celebrity” was held in Seoul. Actors Park Gyu Young, Kang Min Hyuk, Lee Chung Ah, Lee Dong Gun, Jun Hyo Seong and director Kim Cheol Kyu attended the event.
“Celebrity” depicts the desires and mysteries surrounding people who become social media influencers, living as so-called celebrities and the people who envy them.
Lee Dong Gun plays the role of Jin Tae Jeon, the owner of Taekang, a law firm with both money and power. He returned to his main job as an actor 4 years after TV Chosun’s drama “Leverage”, which ended in December 2019.
Regarding his comeback activities after a long time, Lee Dong Gun stated, “I thought there must be a reason why I should take a break from work. I believed that it is important for a father to spend time together with his daughter during the process of her growing up from the age of 5 to 7.”
Lee Dong Gun got married to Jo Yoon Hee, with whom he co-starred in KBS2’s drama “The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop” in 2017. They welcomed their first daughter in December of the following year, but divorced in 2020, three years after their marriage. Custody rights were given to Jo Yoon Hee.
Lee Dong Gun confessed, “After going through personal pain, I focused on my only daughter. Although I can’t always be by her side, I wanted to alleviate the anxiety about her father’s absence, so I gave my heart and time to spend with her.”
Lee Dong Gun and Jo Yoon Hee divorced, but it is known that they are still interacting for the sake of their daughter. Jo Yoon Hee made a whipped-cream cake with her daughter on the occasion of Lee Dong Gun’s birthday on JTBC’s entertainment show “Brave Solo Parenting: I Raise”, which aired in September 2021.
Meanwhile, “Celebrity” will be released in 190 countries around the world through Netflix on June 30th.
