The idol and trainee life is not at all easy, yet Sakura went beyond and above to blossom in Korea with her perseverance.
It is generally known that the life of an idol trainee is not easy. There are many people who give up halfway through exhaustion from strict diet management and tight training schedules from a young age. However, there is an idol who made her debut after enduring this kind of trainee life three times, and it’s none other than Sakura, who is active as a LE SSERAFIM member..
Sakura was born in 1998 in Kagoshima, Japan. She first made her entertainment debut in Japan in 2011 as a member of the Jpop group HKT48. In 2018, she appeared in the Mnet’s Korean-Japanese audition program “Produce 48”, and became a member of project group IZ*ONE, which disbanded in 2021.
According to past revelations, Sakura dreamed of becoming a singer after her mother took her to see the musical “The Phantom of the Opera”. Having fallen in love with musicals, Sakura attended a musical school in downtown Kagoshima since she was a 3rd year elementary school student. At the time, Sakura was a member of the musical troupe “Four Seasons”, and performed a small role in the musical “The Lion King”.
With all this experience, in 2010, Sakura traveled to Broadway in New York and received singing, dancing, and acting instruction from Broadway musical actors and choreographers. Despite these efforts, however, her time in HKT48 cannot be regarded as smooth-sailing. In HKT48, popularity rankings between members are regularly revealed, and Sakura suffered from low popularity from time to time. She would then gradually rise through steady growth, and become one of the group’s pillar members.
The same trend can be seen in Sakura’s “Produce 48” journey. In particular, at the beginning of the show, Sakura was lacking in a lot of areas, but it was her growing image that moved the hearts of viewers. Her chemistry with Chaeyeon, who later debuted as a member of IZ*ONE, also drew attention throughout the broadcast.
After the disbandment of IZ*ONE, which was Sakura’s 2nd debut, speculations started to rise regarding Sakura’s future plans. At the time, news broke that after graduating from HKT48, Sakura had signed a contract with HYBE Labels. Eventually, this was proven true as Sakura made her third debut in 2022 as a member of LE SSERAFIM, raising curiosity over her future.
