Kim Tae Ri’s “Alienoid” surpassed “Minions” and “Top Gun: Maverick”, topping the box office on first day of release

Part 1 of the movie “Alienoid” is taking first place in Korea’s box office within its first day of release

According to the integrated computer network of Korea Film Council on July 21st, the first part of the movie “Alienoid” attracted 158,162 spectators within July 20th, landing on top of Korea’s box office. 

As of 7 a.m July 21st, the cumulative number of audiences for this movie has reached 165,589.

The first part of “Alienoid”, which  was produced by director Choi Dong Hoon and cost over 30 billion won, has attracted numerous hot topics prior to its official release. It also boasts a star-studded cast consisting of famous actors and actresses like Kim Woo Bin, Kim Tae Ri, Ryu Jun Yeol, and So Ji Sub

Meanwhile, in terms of box office, the animated movie “Minions: The Rise of Gru”, came in 2nd, after “Alienoid”.

Third place belongs to Tom Cruise’s action movie “Top Gun: Maverick”, 4th place is taken by Park Chan Wook’s film “Decision to Leave”, which features Tang Wei. 

However, while “Alienoid” is leading in box office sales, “Minions: The Rise of Gru” comes out on top when it comes to real-time reservation rate.

To break even, the first installment of “Alienoid” needs to attract 7 million viewers, and anticipations are high for this movie, which has captured the public’s attention with various hot topics prior to release. 

“Alienoid” depicts the story of time-traveling Taoists who try to own a divine sword, as well as follows their journey to chase after an alien imprisoned inside a human body.
