Kim Se-jeong’s “Today’s Webtoon” ratings are decreasing due to Lee Jong-suk’s “Big Mouth”

SBS’ “Today’s Webtoon” starring actors Kim Se-jeong and Nam Yoon-su is not receiving as much attention as expected.

Episode 6 of SBS’ “Today’s Webtoon”, which aired on August 13th, recorded an average rating of 2.8% nationwide based on Nielsen Korea.

This is not only the drama’s own lowest rating, but also the lowest rating in 3 years since SBS organized Friday-Saturday dramas in February 2019.

Today's Webtoon

“Today’s Webtoon” is showing a downtrend even though Kim Se-jeong, who became a “trustworthy actress” by successive successes through OCN’s “The Uncanny Counter” and SBS’ “Business Proposal”, took the lead role.

In addition, although “Today’s Webtoon” is a remake of the popular Japanese drama “Sleepeeer Hit!” (TBS), it seems that the drama is not getting enough support from the original work’s fans.

“Today’s Webtoon” is receiving unfavorable reviews because the story focuses only on the growth of the female protagonist On Ma-eum (Kim Se-jeong) and does not reveal the individuality of the characters around her.

On the other hand, MBC’s “Big Mouth” starring actors Lee Jong-suk and Yoona, a drama of the same time period, is continuing its high ratings. Episode 6 of “Big Mouth”, which aired on August 13th, had an average rating of 10.8% nationwide based on Nielsen Korea.

“Big Mouth” tells the story of an underperforming lawyer (Lee Jong-suk) who gets caught up in a murder case. In order to survive and protect his family, he digs into a huge conspiracy among the privileged upper classes.

Viewers of “Big Mouth” are enjoying the chewy tension by making various inferences about “who is the real Big Mouse”.

The acting ability of Lee Jong-suk, who portrayed elaborately Park Chang-ho’s emotional changes such as confusion, despair, anger and mockery, is also receiving positive reviews.

Lee Jong-suk, who starred in SBS’ “Pinocchio”, SBS’ “While You Were Sleeping” and tvN’s “Romance Is a Bonus Book”, created another “character of a lifetime”.

Since the two dramas premiered on the same day, there is no choice but to be more comparable among viewers.

Attention is focused on whether “Today’s Webtoon”, which started smoothly with an average nationwide viewership rating of 4.1% based on Nielsen Korea at the time of its first broadcast, will be able to make a rebound.

Meanwhile, MBC’s “Big Mouth” and SBS’ “Today’s Webtoon” are broadcast every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.
