K-pop Idol Pretended to have Low IQ to Escape Enlistment, 1 Year Imprisonment

On January 17, The Korea Herald reported that the South Korean court has sentenced a male K-pop idol to 1 year imprisonment, suspended for 2 years.

In particular, the aforementioned idol, who is 32 years old, has pretended to have a low IQ of 60 in order to escape enlistment. Additionally, he faked psychological symptoms and deliberately gave wrong answers in tests in order to be diagnosed with mild mental disability.

However, it has since been revealed that the idol has no mental disability, and has no issue while preparing for his debut and performing his idol activities.

According to the court, the male had confessed to his crimes, had no criminal record, and promised to fulfill his military service, leading to the final sentence.

On the other hand, Korean netizens who heard of this news have condemned the male idol. Below are some of the comments:

  • Who is this guy? He needs to stop bringing shame to Korea
  • Having this kind of mindset is why he never becomes popular
  • Pretending to have low IQ just to avoid enlistment is funny
  • He is going to be mentally disabled for real if the public find out who he is
  • People like him are why celebrities who actually have health issues are criticized when they don’t do active duty….
