K-Drama “Rating Guarantee” Shin Hye Sun Makes a Comeback, Rivalling Yoona

Dubbed the “queen of ratings,” Shin Hye Sun is making a comeback in the new drama “See You In My 19th Life.”

“King the Land”, led by Yoona and Lee Jun Ho, and “See You In My 19th Life”, led by Shin Hye Sun and Ahn Bo Hyun, are without doubt the two most attention-grabbing new K-dramas this month.

While Yoona achieved great success with “Big Mouth” last year, this is Shin Hye Sun’s first small-screen comeback after “Mr. Queen” in 2021, thus drawing great expectations.

Shin Hye Sun, born in 1989, is loved not only for her lovely looks but also amazing acting talent. She has worked her way up from small roles to be dubbed the “K-drama rating guarantee.”

From supporting roles in “School 2013” to the queen of K-drama ratings

Shin Hye Sun was inspired by Won Bin in “Autumn in My Heart” to become an actor. However, it wasn’t until she turned 24 that she made her debut in the hit drama “School 2013”.

2014-2015 marked a significant milestone in Shin Hye Sun’s acting career as she starred in two hit dramas, “Oh My Ghost” and “She Was Pretty”. Although she only took on supporting roles alongside lead actresses Park Bo Young and Hwang Jung Eum, she was recognized for her diverse acting.

After taking a year-long break from dramas, Shin Hye Sun is returning in “See You in My 19th Life.”

Paired with the most handsome actors on screen, but two of them involved in scandals

Shin Hye Sun worked with many handsome actors such as Sung Hoon, Park Si Hoo, Yang Se Jong, Kim Myung Soo and Kim Jung Hyun. Among them, Park Si Hoo and Kim Jung Hyun were embroiled in shocking love scandals.

Park Si Hoo

In the midst of the peak of his career in 2013, Park Si Hoo was accused of allegedly raping A, a 22-year-old aspiring actress. A said that after drinking heavily at a bar in Gangnam District, she and Park Si Hoo went to his apartment in Cheongdam-dong, where she lost consciousness and realized she had been raped when she woke up. Park Si Hoo denied the allegation. He admitted that he had sex with the woman but claimed it was consensual. Despite being defended by his former agency, the bar owner and mutual friend, the actor was still strongly boycotted by the public. Ultimately, the matter was settled out of court, and no verdict was ever reached. But the image stain still caused Park Si Hoo to struggle for many years without getting his reputation back.

Kim Jung Hyun

Actor Kim Jung Hyun was one of the famous names many years ago thanks to “Crash Landing on You” and other hit works. In 2018, during the press conference for the drama “The Time”, he was criticized for answering questions unenthusiastically and refusing to link arms with his co-star Seohyun. He even withdrew from the series halfway through its run, officially citing health reasons. When being criticized by the public, Kim Jung Hyun turned the attention to his ex-girlfriend – famous actress Seo Ye Ji.

This was a deliberate move from Kim Jung Hyun’s side to avoid responsibility. According to Kim Jung Hyun, he was gaslighted by his ex-girlfriend Seo Ye Ji and was prevented from being intimate with his co-star Seohyun. After Kim Jung Hyun’s confession, Seo Ye Ji’s career and reputation were seriously affected.
