Transgender model who was exempted from military service unveiled photos of wedding ceremony in Gangneung
Scenes of transgender model Choi Han Bit’s happy wedding ceremony have been revealed.
On June 19th, Choi Han Bit (35 years old), who changed sex from a male to a female and is working as a model, shared various scenes on her Instagram.
Expressing her overwhelming emotion, Choi Han Bit said, “I’m very grateful to everyone who congratulated me on my wedding”.
The released pictures show Choi Han Bi wearing an off-shoulder silk wedding dress and smiling shyly. She looked extremely happy at first glance.
Choi Han Bit and her businessman husband held their wedding ceremony in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, which is also their hometown, on June 18th.
Choi Han Bit made it to the finals of the SBS Supermodel Contest and has been carrying out activities as a model and singer. She also appeared on “Challenge Supermodel Korea” while studying Dance at the Korean National University of Arts
She also played supporting roles in KBS2’s “The Princess’ Man” and TV Chosun’s “Go! Mrs. Go!”. Later, she formed a four-member girl group called Mercury together with friends from the Dance Academy of the Korea National University of Arts.
According to a past article on DongA Ilbo, Choi Han Bit shared, “I don’t remember a specific moment when I realized my gender identity, but I have always felt that I was a girl since birth”, adding, “When I began to distinguish between boys and girls, I felt like something was wrong with me.” She revealed that her high school years were like hell because of those struggles.
She confessed, “It was very hard for me since my friends were all girls. I could feel the judgmental gazes from others, saying ‘What’s wrong with that person?’. Even teachers treated me as a boy by giving me heavy tasks and making me do a lot of manual labor. There were many days when I cried and wanted to say, ‘I’m also a girl’.”
Choi Han Bit explained, “That’s why I could only dance during that time”, adding, “I was able to endure those hard times thanks to dancing. Dancing was the only thing I could do, so I worked even harder at it”. She recalled the past and said, “During that time, I was ‘a boy who was not a boy but discover myself through dancing’.”
Choi Han Bit did not enlist in the military. At the age of 20, she underwent a physical examination but received an exemption. Choi Han Bit said, “I already thought about undergoing surgery to change my gender, but I couldn’t tell my parents about that, so I eventually applied for military service. I was so scared of the military”
In the end, Choi Han Bit went to the Military Manpower Administration after receiving a psychiatric diagnosis. The officials decided on a military service exemption after examining her face in detail.
