JYP joins hand US Republic Records to launch US girl group

JYP Entertainment will launch a global girl group with US Republic Records.

Starting in 2020, JYP and TWICE have a strategic partnership in the U.S. market with Republic Records under Universal Music, the No. 1 label in the U.S.

They will take the first historical step through the audition ‘A2K’ held in major cities such as New York and Los Angeles in September. Accordingly, the two companies will present the debut project ‘A2K’ for a global girl group based in English-speaking countries such as the United States and Canada.

The JYP-Republic joint project ‘A2K’, which will be developed with J.Y Park, who is focusing on expanding the influence of K-pop, will start in Atlanta on September 10 (local time), Chicago on the 14th, New York on the 17th and 18th, and New York on the 20th. Auditions will be held in five major cities in the United States, including Dallas and Los Angeles from the 23rd to the 25th. The main base for the audition is set in LA, and the candidates who passed the audition then moved to the JYP headquarters in Korea and went through a systematic training system that gathered the know-how of K-pop planners, choreographers, and producers including J.Y Park.

The key point of ‘A2K’ is to launch the first global girl group based on the K-pop system in the U.S. A2K, the first in pop music history to incorporate a legendary training model of K-pop idols into the West. K-pop’s main energy through JYP, including music, talent, fashion and fandom, will be applied to global girl groups through A2K and delivered to music fans around the world.

The name of this project is A2K, which is an abbreviation of America2Korea so the final artist that comes out of this procedure will be the first American artist made out of a K-pop system,” Park explained. “It’s like talented artists who goes through a training system like an Olympic gymnast will go through. That’s the K-pop artist that the global audience fell in love with because of their dedication, their discipline and their hard work and the values they carry. That’s what separates them from a lot of artists.”

Republic Records CEO and chairman, Monte Lipman, also said, “Park Jin-young, a K-pop icon and pioneer, continues to create a special repercussion in the music market and popular culture in general. If JYP’s extraordinary values and musical know-how are combined with American artists, it will be an opportunity for a global super girl group to be born in the global music market.

Founded by brothers Manti Lipman and Avery Lipman, Republic Records has been at the top of Billboard’s label rankings for years, proving its strong influence there. Superstars under this label such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Drake, Post Malone, John Legend, and Lil Wayne have won numerous platinum and splendid achievements.
