Jennie’s influence in fashion is considerable.
Jennie (BLACKPINK) is one the few Kpop idols with strong influence in the field of fashion. The idol is known not only for leading trends but also selling out items in a matter of minutes.
Even though the articles that Jennie wears values form over function, they are so wanted that stores sold out and prices may even increase. That is to show how influential the fashion icon of Korea is.
Last September, numerous buyers rushed to the Adidas store in Myeongdong to look for the model previously mentioned. Some even camped out front just to own a pair that matched Jennie’s. An industry insider said that: “This is strange, because consumers are waiting in line at Adidas instead of Nike”. The basic adidas lock-up sweatshirt was also sold out when Jennie wore it in one of her photos. A plain combination of jeans and sweatshirt somehow attracted unexpected attention. Last summer, Jennie also led to the “out of stock” situation with Alexander Wang’s side-tie white dress. Boasting a design with drawstring side ties and a ruched side section, this piece was desired by many despite its unique and “picky” styling. 30 minutes was the time needed for the bootcut jeans by Instantfunk, after Jennie donned the piece and posted it on her Instagram. The item became so hot that their Creative Director had to announce they even ran out of Small sizes. Jennie boasted her stylish image and charisma in the wool knit cardigan by Self-Portrait and the item was immediately sold out after the show aired. The brand had to amp up the production by 5 times to meet the demand. Jacquemus corduroy cropped top with dual section of matcha green and lilac also went out of stock thanks to Jennie. The square-line body-fit wool top was a hot item of summer 2020, proving the idol’s influence over the fashion trend of the youth. The cotton-blend mini dress was also sold out when Jennie wore it for a commercial for Spotify. While the body-tight dress similar to the Alyx disco dress can be found anywhere, because Jennie wore it, the people wanted it, leading to their escalating hotness and sold-out status in a short duration.
