IU, Song Kang-ho and Kang Dong-won to step on the red carpet of Cannes, ‘Broker’ got invited to the Competition category

Hirokazu Koreeda’s ‘Broker’ is officially invited to the Competition section of the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

On the afternoon of April 14th (KST), after the official invitation was announced at the press conference of the organizing committee of the 75th Cannes Film Festival, director Hirokazu Koreeda’s ‘Broker‘ has reportedly entered the Competition section.

Broker‘ is a work that depicts the story of people who meet each other over a baby box that is provided for people who cannot raise children to leave their babies in anonymously.

It is also the first Korean film directed by Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda. In collaboration with Korean actors such as Song Kang-ho, Kang Dong-won, IU (Lee Ji-eun), and Bae Doo-na, the filming was completed in Busan last year. The filmmaker Hitmaker, which has made various topical films, was in charge of production.

Hirokazu Koreeda, a regular director at the Cannes Film Festival, won the Jury Prize for ‘Like father, like son’, and won the Palme d’Or for ‘Shoplifter’. Attention is focused on what kind of reviews the film ‘Broker‘, a unique project that a Japanese director collaborated with Korean actors in Korea, will receive at this film festival.

IU

In particular, this is IU’s debut in a commercial film. The first work she chose was director Lee Byung-hun’s ‘Dream’, but as overseas filming was delayed, she made his screen debut with the second film, ‘Broker’. Thanks to this, IU had the honor of being on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival for her first commercial feature film. IU‘s appearance on the red carpet is expected to attract a lot of attention.

Meanwhile, this year’s Cannes Film Festival will be held normally in May for the first time since the COVID-19 Pandemic. From May 14 (local time) to 25 (local time), it will welcome guests in the southern French resort city of Cannes.
