How Was BTS’s V Cast For IU’s “Love Wins All” MV? “I’ll Regret It If I Don’t Do It”

On January 28th, IU’s official YouTube channel “IU Official” released the behind-the-scenes footage of “Love Wins All” music video. The music video, starring IU and BTS’s V, was directed by “Concrete Utopia” director Uhm Tae-hwa.

Expressing her thoughts about the shoot, IU shared, “In Yangyang, Gangwon-do, breathing in the morning winter air that makes you wide awake. Who came up with this idea? I can’t even smile. Just hang in there until the shoot is over. When will the shoot be over? Who can I blame? I planned everything. I’m so ashamed. I couldn’t look at their faces”.

When asked about the process to release her album, IU said, “I gritted all my teeth. Director Uhm Tae-hwa decided to take on the MV. He’s always at overseas film festivals. He’s buried in work but he decided to take this work with nothing but his enthusiasm.” She added, “V is also up to his ears. He has only a week to enlist in the military. It’s a ridiculous schedule, but luckily, we were able to work the schedule and thankfully it got to take place. I think I’m using all the fortune I got from having kind friends on this album. I got so fortunate so I was a bit surprised and it gave me a lot of energy.”

Regarding how she cast V to play the male lead in her music video, IU confessed, “I was talking with Director Uhm Tae-hwa and we were discussing about the male lead. He has to possess the mood of a young boy. However, he must give off a very cool and reliable feeling after the transformation. Then, by chance, around that time, I needed to contact V about something. I sent him the music first and he loved the music. He listened to ‘Love Wins All’ and happily decided to star in the MV. Isn’t it such a special, symbolic casting”.

V also explained the reason he deciđe to appear in the MV. The BTS member said, “First of all, the director of the music video was Uhm Tae-hwa who filmed ‘Concrete Utopia’ so I thought it would be a precious memory to work on a piece with him. After I listened to it, I knew that I would regret it so much if I don’t do the MV because it was totally my jam.” As the filming began in earnest, the two had to run for seven hours straight. V complained, “You didn’t say it would be this hard”, IU replied that she didn’t expect it either.

On the next day, IU appeared on the set and explained, “As soon as I woke up this morning, I checked on V, ‘You didn’t go to Seoul, did you?’. Even if V said he went back to Seoul, no one would have blamed him. Because we put him through so much trouble yesterday that it’ll be inhuman to blame him for that. He’s so kind. He’s back at the site today. How can I repay him? After this shoot, I think I’ll be uncomfortable around V”
