How Did Lee Hyo-ri’s Show Rise From Rating Slump While Competing With Lee Honey and Ahn Bo-hyun’s Dramas?

How did Lee Hyo-ri’s program survive even among major dramas of other TV networks?

A month has passed since “Lee Hyo-ri’s Red Carpet” changed its time zone. It was originally broadcast at 11:30 p.m. on Friday but has been moved to 10 p.m. starting with the broadcast on March 2nd.

Moving the time zone in a program is more like gambling. Even a program with a fixed fandom can be affected by the time zone. Especially if the time zone is when the main dramas of other broadcast stations are settled, it is more like a fire moth jumping into a fire pit than gambling.

“Lee Hyo-ri’s Red Carpet” was like that. Originally aired at 11:30 p.m. on Friday night, the show competed with MBC’s “I Live Alone.” The first episode received positive achievements thanks to performances by BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Shin Dong-yup and Lee Jung-eun. The rating was originally 1.9%, but was directly halved to 1.0% and 0.8% in later episodes. The lineup of performers for these episodes including Yoon Ha, RIIZE, SISTAR 19, Defconn and ITZY was not bad, but the 0.n% rating history that Lee’s predecessors recorded was gradually approaching.

As the show “Golden Girls” ended, KBS decided to leave that time to Lee Hyo-ri’s. However, Friday night at 10 p.m. is the time for Friday-Saturday dramas. Lee Hyo-ri’s show had to face Lee Honey, Ahn Bo-hyun, and Park Ji-hyun’s dramas.

However, the situation was different. The fifth episode of “Lee Hyo-ri’s Red Carpet,” which aired on March 2nd, recorded 1.7% of rating, which is comparable to the first episode, and the sixth, seventh, and eighth episode all recorded ratings of around 1.n%, entering a stable phase. During the period, “Knight Flower” had the highest viewer rating of 18.4%, while “Flex X Cop” had 11%. Although it is not comparable to other broadcasters’ Friday-Saturday dramas, “Lee Hyo-ri’s Red Carpet” has settled down and has a fixed audience, given that it has a steady viewer rating of around 1%.

Then why can Lee Hyo-ri’s compete as a late-night music program despite facing Lee Honey, Ahn Bo-hyun, and Park Ji-Hyun’s hit dramas? First of all, it changed the lineup from the previous season. In the previous season, performers tailored to the colors of host Jay Park, Jannabi’s Choi Jung-hoon, and AKMU, but “Lee Hyo-ri’s Red Carpet” changed to a lineup that viewers are curious about.

Not only musicians, those who are related to music were also invited to talk with Lee Hyo-ri. Comedian Park Myung-soo, actors Lee Jung-ha, Kim Go-eun and Lee Yi-kyung are examples. Park has been familiar with Lee on “Infinite Challenge” and Lee Jung-ha, Kim Go-eun and Lee Yi-kyung have been active in works that have recently attracted attention, so viewers will want to see them and hear their stories while checking their singing skills.

As the show targeted viewers with a lineup of a variety of performers and didn’t just depend on Lee’s name, it’s time for her to live up to her name. Lee did not try to shine as the sole MC. She is listening to the performers, giving reactions, and continuing to ask additional questions to comfort the performers and entertain the viewers with her natural MC skills. In particular, as most of the performers were somehow acquaintances of Lee Hyo-ri, including those in the entertainment industry and those in the music industry, their chemistry gave joy to the viewers.

They also didn’t forget that “The Seasons” is a late-night music program. Viewers are well aware of how the program, which had lost its planning intentions and original intentions, tilted. It kept talking about music and doubled the fun of the program as it was accompanied by a talk show.

As a result, Lee Hyo-ri was able to continue her solo MC challenge by enduring even between huge Friday and Saturday dramas.
