“You don’t have the right to talk about reverse discrimination,” harsh criticism against “Woo Young-woo” from a Yonsei student is spreading rapidly

On July 21st, an article was posted on the online community FM Korea and theqoo saying, “Woo Young-woo does not have the right to talk about reverse discrimination.” This article was posted on the bulletin board of Yonsei University Community Everytime. Only Yonsei University students can write on this bulletin board.

The author said, “It is difficult to say that Woo Young-woo, depicted in the drama, has autism.”

The hardest thing for people with autism is to notice the hidden situation behind and return what other people say,” this account said. “Woo Young-woo can’t be considered someone with autism as she understood her father’s hidden intention during the fighting scene with his guest, and her top result at Seoul National University Law School is even more of a fantasy than that.”

“I heard that there are cases like this in the U.S., but it’s not common in the U.S., that’s why I wrote this,” the author said. “Even if that happens, is this drama seriously dealing with Woo Young-woo’s autism? Did she experience any difficulties or cause any problem?”

The author continued, “Woo Young-woo is not an actual person with autism, but a person with autism that viewers want to see,” adding, “The kind of person who wouldn’t cause any problems if they just left her alone without having to take any responsibility and inconvenience.”

“If Kwon Min-woo symbolizes the reverse discrimination of male in their 20s, at least Woo Young-woo should also have something in relation with the arguments related to the socially disadvantaged,” they said. “I don’t think it makes sense for a character without the characteristics of a person with autism.”

The author finished the article with questions such as “Can Woo Young-woo be viewed as an autistic person?” “The viewer and producer of the drama “Woo Young-woo” is not interested in autism, they only see it as something cute,” “Then they should just make it something cute only, why include all the social arguments in it?”

In the seventh episode of the ENA Wednesday-Thursday drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” which aired on the 20th, Kwon Min-woo (Ju Jong-hyuk) accused Woo Young-woo (Park Eun-bin) of illegal employment after learning that Woo Young-woo’s father and the CEO of their law firm are senior and junior in college.

In particular, Kwon Min-woo said to Choi Soo-yeon (Ha Yoon-kyung), a fellow lawyer who protects Woo Young-woo, “Woo Young-woo is a strong player.” “Didn’t they have a joke that went ‘Woo Young-woo will be 1st place anyway’ in college?” he said, adding, “This game is not fair. Woo Young-woo always beats us, but we cannot attack Woo Young-woo. Why? Because Woo Young-woo has autism. People are all under an illusion that Woo Young-woo is a vulnerable,” he said, expressing his disapproval.
