Go Kyung-pyo will make you laugh without mercy in “Frankly Speaking”

JTBC's "Frankly Speaking" released first still-cuts of Go Kyung-pyo

JTBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Frankly Speaking” (written by Choi Kyung-sun, directed by Jang Ji-yeon, planned by SLL, produced by SLL·KeyEast) tells the melodrama story of Song Ki-baek (Go Kyung-pyo), a 33-year-old announcer working for Ultra FM who develops a disorder that causes him to speak without thinking, and On Woo-ju (Kang Han-na), a variety show writer willing to do anything for an entertaining program.

“Sexy-brain man”, “Silver spoon” and “High Spec” are the modifiers for Song Ki-baek. Moreover, being an 8-year veteran announcer on the brink of becoming the main news anchor, he seems to have his future secured. However, the still cuts released today (April 1st) present a different twist from this description. While he looks impeccable in a perfect suit from head to toe, there’s something about his expression as he awkwardly bends over the news desk or shoots a gaze at someone that somehow triggers laughter.

In fact, all the modifiers following him are images created by Song Ki-baek himself. The reason why this kind of making was possible was because of the K-work ethic of never saying “No” in any situation. Having endured for 8 years, and with the prospect of becoming a flagship anchor looming, his future seemed bright. However, an unexpected unpaved road lies ahead. As recently revealed in a teaser video, after suffering an “eye-opening” electric shock accident, he, who was once a “yes man”, suddenly becomes a “fact bomber” who cannot tolerate anything he does not agree with.

Thus, Go Kyung-pyo’s acting, fully immersed in his character, promises to be filled with truth and sincerity. Moreover, viewers can expect to share the emotions of Go Kyung-pyo, who stated, “I felt exhilarated while acting. I felt a thrilling catharsis.” His commitment to delivering laughter without hiding anything will surely be good news for viewers who rarely find reasons to smile amidst the frustrating and exhausting reality.

The production team of “Frankly Speaking” expressed, “From the first shoot, Go Kyung-pyo fully immersed himself in Song Ki-baek’s dramatic life turnaround at an astonishing speed. Many staff members applauded him for letting loose and delivering an amazing performance while enjoying Song Ki-baek’s uncontrollable charm. Song Ki-baek may have an image that seems hard to approach, but he’s also a character with a subtle, lovable goofiness. As he becomes unable to lie, this side of him pops out frequently. Viewers can look forward to witnessing Go Kyung-pyo’s diverse charms.”

JTBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Frankly Speaking” will premiere in May.
