Yong Junhyung made a comeback with his new album ‘LONER’ on November 10th. It has been about 4 years since he was caught being involved in the “Jung Joonyoung group chat room” incident.
Yong Junhyung was involved in the illegal filming of singer Jung Joonyoung in 2019. As a result, his activities were temporarily suspended. At the time, Jung Joonyoung shared pornographic videos that he had illegally filmed in the group chat room. Yong Junhyung and singer Roy Kim were known as members of the chat room.
Yong Junhyung said “it’s not true” when the controversy arose. However, he was later investigated by the police after it was revealed that he had shared related videos in a one-on-one chat room. Yong Junhyung then reversed his words, saying, “I once received videos filmed illegally and had inappropriate conversations about it. It was such an immoral act.“
Yong Junhyung’s lie was enough to provoke anger from the public and fans. Yong Junhyung, who was a member of HIGHLIGHT at the time, left the group and enlisted in the military about a month later.
This month, Yong Junhyung begins to promote alone for the first time in two years after the summon was lifted in November 2020. The tag of “Jung Joonyoung’s group chat room” attached to his name still remains.
In particular, the standards for the comeback of controversial celebrities in Korea are strict. Even if you admit your mistakes in the past, you need to show your sincerity through self-reflection and apology once again.
However, Yong Junhyung seems like he is “sneakily moving on”. When asked about his feelings at the time, he said, “I did not belong to any group chat room. However, I am fully aware that there was a mistake in the conversation at the time, and I am aware that it is wrong to not correct it.”
In response to a number of related questions, he refused to answer by saying, “I want to present the album to as many people as possible” and “I tried to improve the quality of the album while thinking of the fans waiting for it.”
In the end, there was no clear apology. Yong Junhyung was clearly aware of the criticisms and his mistakes. Even though he had the opportunity to apologize, he seemed to be only trying to divert it.
He seems to have taken the break after the incident somewhat lightly. Yong Junhyung said, “I ate a lot of the things I wanted to eat, lost weight, and rested well. I think I especially spent time with my family.“
Yong Junhyung ended the meeting by saying, “I will greet you only with good things from now on.” In order for his future activities to be seen as a ‘good thing’, he should have taken his first steps more carefully. Yong Junhyung, who is starting to engage in solo activities in the midst of negative public opinion, seems to only raise more disappointment with his attitude.
