Ex-T-ara Areum hospitalized again “Suspicions of child abuse and drugs? This is ridiculous!”
Former T-ara member Areum (29, Lee Areum) refuted reports that she has been sent to the prosecution on charges of child abuse
According to Sports Kyunghyang on June 4th, Areum stated, “I’ve never been notified about being sent to the prosecution.” She also shared that she is currently hospitalized due to stress.
Regarding the “child abuse” reports, Areum said, “This is ridiculous!” She explained, “During the first custody meeting, my first child (5 years old) told me that he had been abused by my ex-husband, so I took him with me, and we were both investigated. I have thoroughly undergone police investigations regarding this matter. Even the investigators sided with me at the time.”
She also denied the drug allegations that surfaced in April, “At that time, my ex-husband had someone else prescribe diet pills for him, manipulated the evidence then filed a lawsuit. I underwent a humiliating investigation, even having my hair pulled out for testing. I was, of course, cleared of all charges.”
Previously, on June 3rd, it was reported that the Gyeonggi Gwangmyeong Police Station forwarded Areum to the Ansan branch, Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office in early May with recommendations for indictment on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse and neglect) and child abduction. Ahreum’s mother, A, was also sent to the prosecution on charges of child abduction.
In February, Areum’s ex-husband, B, filed charges against Areum and her mother for the aforementioned allegations. After 3 months of investigation, the police forwarded the case to the prosecution with recommendations for indictment.
Areum joined T-ara in 2012 but left the group the following year. In 2019, she married an older businessman and had two sons. However, in December 2023, she revealed she was in the midst of a divorce lawsuit with her ex-husband and announced plans to register her marriage with her boyfriend, C.
During this process, Areum made shocking claims that her ex-husband had abused their two sons and that she herself was a victim of domestic violence.
However, various allegations surrounding Areum and her boyfriend C have emerged, casting doubt on her previous claims. There have been controversies about Areum and her boyfriend soliciting money from acquaintances under the pretext of medical expenses. Although Areum argued that these actions were the work of a hacker, rumors continued to swirl. Ultimately, she ended her relationship with C.
