Ex-NMIXX’s Jinni and Ex-(G)I-DLE’s Seo Soojin Embark on New Journeys as Soloists: Will They Succeed?

After leaving their respective groups, Jinni and Seo Soojin have both announced new beginnings in their careers

Jinni, who debuted with NMIXX just a year ago, abruptly announced her departure earlier this year, citing personal reasons. Seo Soojin left (G)I-DLE in 2021 amidst allegations of school violence, three years into her debut.

On October 11th, Jinni made her solo debut. At the time of her withdrawal from NMIXX, she stated that it was due to personal reasons and did not disclose the exact reason for leaving the group. This left fans curious, and her disappearance from NMIXX’s official social media accounts only added to the mystery surrounding her sudden departure.

Especially considering Jinni’s journey of seven years as a JYP trainee, her departure after just ten months raised even more questions among fans.

During her solo debut showcase, Jinni said that it was difficult to discuss the specific reason for her departure due to personal reasons but expressed her determination to work hard as a soloist.

Jinni’s debut solo album, ‘An Iron Hand in a Velvet Glove,’ captures both toughness and strength in the image of “Iron Hand” and the soft beauty in “Velvet Glove,” portraying a Jinni with a gentle image on the outside and a strong inner core.

Jinni sold 78,932 copies for her album in the first week. Her music video for the title track “C’mon” garnered over 5.8 million views within a week of its release, solidifying the growing interest in Jinni’s solo career.

While the mystery behind her exit from NMIXX remains, fans are now eager to see how Jinni will captivate the public as a solo artist.

Seo Soojin is currently preparing for her solo debut in the coming fall. She debuted in (G)I-DLE in 2018 and quickly gained popularity, with her charismatic stage presence earning her the love of the public.

However, in 2021, after just three years of debut, allegations of her involvement in school violence emerged, leading her to suspend her activities. At the time, a netizen claimed to be Seo Soojin’s classmate and accused her of being a school bully. Actress Seo Shin-ae also alleged that she had been a victim of bullying by Seo Soojin.

Seo Soojin consistently denied the allegations of school violence, but they continued to linger. Eventually, she not only left (G)I-DLE but also terminated her exclusive contract with Cube Entertainment. Subsequently, Seo Soojin filed a police complaint against the netizen who accused her of bullying, but the case was closed due to lack of evidence.

Through her legal representative, Seo Soojin admitted to having had an interest in singing and dancing during her middle school years and not being entirely diligent in her studies. While she couldn’t prove the allegations were false, she argued that the level of violence, verbal abuse, and exploitation she was accused of would have led to disciplinary action had they occurred during her middle school years.

In anticipation of her solo debut and with lingering questions about the school violence allegations, Seo Soojin opened her own Instagram account in July. Within just three days, she gained over two million followers, reaffirming her solid popularity.

The question now remains: how will Seo Soojin’s solo debut be received by the public, and will she be able to show herself in a positive light?
