The 2025 MAMA Awards opened on November 28 at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong under somber circumstances, following a deadly apartment fire that claimed over 100 lives just 20 kilometers away.

Wearing black ribbons, attendees, artists, and host Park Bo Gum paid tribute to the victims. With no fireworks or celebratory effects, the ceremony opened with Park tearfully stating, “We offer our deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones. Let’s take a moment of silence.”

Despite the tragic backdrop, the awards proceeded, emphasizing unity and healing through music. Two of the night’s biggest honors—Grand Prizes (Daesangs)—were awarded to:

  • ENHYPEN: Visa Fan’s Choice of the Year, determined by 100% fan voting
  • Rosé: Visa Song of the Year for “Apartment,” her chart-topping global collaboration with Bruno Mars

Among nominees including BLACKPINK’s Jennie (“Jennie”), aespa (“Whiplash”), G-Dragon (“Too Bad”), and Huntrix (“Golden”), it was Rosé’s global collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Apartment,” that took the crown.

Rosé, who could not attend in person, accepted via video: “Thank you so much to the fans for all the love this year. I’m truly grateful to the staff, composers, and everyone who helped bring this music to life.”

She also directly addressed her collaborator, saying, “Bruno, we won Song of the Year! I’m so happy to share this with you.”

Rosé concluded, “I’ll keep bringing you great songs and music. Thank you again.”
