In a deeply emotional moment during the 2025 MAMA Awards, host Park Bo Gum opened the ceremony with a solemn tribute to victims of the recent Hong Kong residential fire tragedy, setting a respectful tone for the global music event.
On November 28, the opening ceremony of 2025 MAMA AWARDS Chapter 1 took place at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong. The show began with a heartfelt message displayed on screen: “2025 MAMA AWARDS extends its deepest condolences to the victims of the fire incident in Hong Kong.”

Emerging in a black outfit and with a somber expression, Park Bo Gum addressed the audience with heartfelt sincerity. “This is Park Bo Gum, host of MAMA. It’s been seven years since MAMA returned to Hong Kong, and many have waited for this day,” he began.
But the mood quickly turned reflective as he acknowledged the recent tragedy. “A very heartbreaking accident has occurred. I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who lost their loved ones—family, friends, and precious lives. We sincerely hope that no more victims will emerge from this tragedy.” He then invited the audience to join in a moment of silence, as the stage lights dimmed.
Following the tribute, Park continued with a message of healing and solidarity: “All artists and staff at MAMA are here with a heavy yet resolute heart. We believe in the healing and unifying power of music. Through these performances, we hope to offer even a small amount of strength and comfort.”
He concluded with a call to action: “Beyond this moment, we hope to share sincere condolences with the world and deliver the message of ‘Support Hong Kong.’ MAMA will also contribute through donations to support the victims. We ask for your warm support as well.”

According to international media, the fire broke out on November 26 in the Wang Fook Court residential complex in Tai Po, northern Hong Kong. The death toll has reportedly climbed close to 100, marking one of the most devastating recent disasters in the region.
In response to the tragedy, the planned red carpet event was canceled. Notably, global award presenters such as Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-Fat withdrew from the ceremony, respecting the mourning atmosphere.
Park Bo Gum’s graceful handling of the opening, balancing compassion and leadership, has drawn widespread praise. His actions underscored the emotional weight of the night and reminded viewers worldwide of the unifying power of empathy—and music.
