Die at the age of 24… A wave of mourning and remembrance over Lee Ji-han and Kim Yu-na’s Itaewon tragedy
Actor Lee Ji-han and cheerleader Kim Yu-na died in the Itaewon disaster.
On Oct 29th, a tragic crushing tragedy occurred as at least tens of thousands of people gathered to enjoy Halloween in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. It is adding to the sadness that there are victims in the entertainment and sports circles.
According to the industry, Lee Ji-han, who is active as an actor after appearing on Mnet’s “Produce 101” season 2, and Kim Yu-na, who debuted as a cheerleader for LG Twins’ cheering squad in KBO League in 2016 and has been a member of KIA Tigers since 2018, died in the Itaewon disaster at the age of 24.
It was difficult to identify the victims immediately after the accident, but as related information was delivered to the bereaved families around the afternoon of Oct 30th, news of Lee Ji-han and Kim Yu-na’s accident began to be known through SNS of colleagues and acquaintances. Both were born in 1998, and there is a wave of mourning and remembrance over the tragedy of the flower-like youth.
Lee Ji-han’s agency 935 Entertainment said, “Actor Lee Ji-han has left us and become a star in the sky. We would like to express our deep sympathy to the bereaved family, who are deeply saddened by this sudden heartbreaking news, and all the people who also love, and cherish Lee Ji-han and mourn him. Actor Lee Ji-han was a friendly and warm friend to everyone. We still can’t believe that we will not be able to see our bright and pure actor Lee Ji-han, who always smiled brightly and greeted us confidently, anymore. Please send our actor Lee Ji-han, who left us too soon, off warmly on his last journey.”
Lee Ji-han made his face known when participating in “Produce 101” Season 2 (2017). He expanded his career as an actor by appearing in the 2019 web drama “Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day”. The deceased’s mortuary was set up at the funeral hall of Myongji Hospital. The funeral cortege will leave the residence on Nov 1st.
Kim Yu-na’s colleagues and acquaintances lamented her death, “Yu-na, I’ll pray for you. Thank you so much. My heart hurts”, “I didn’t know what happened in Itaewon would happen to you” and “I still can’t believe it.” Fans are also recalling their memories with the deceased and delivering condolence messages.
Kim Yu-na’s mortuary will be set up at the funeral hall of Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and the coffin will be borne out of the house at 8 AM on Nov 1st. The burial site is Seoul Memorial Park Bundang Hall.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the Itaewon disaster stood at 154 and about 132 were injured according to the fire authorities on Oct 30th. Among the injured, there are many serious injuries, so we still have to wait. The government announced that the national mourning period will be held until 24:00 on Nov 5th.
