Dating rumors of BTS’s V and BLACKPINK’s Jennie fueled by leaked pictures: Why are the companies not speaking up?

The dating rumors of BTS’s V and BLACKPINK’s Jennie have surfaced several times. Alleged photos of the two together were released three times in May, on August 23rd and today (August 25th).
In May, V and Jennie’s alleged secret date on Jeju Island was revealed. The man and woman sitting side by side in the car in the photo were wearing sunglasses, but speculations poured in that they are V and Jennie due to their hairstyles and side profiles. Of course, it is still impossible to confirm it’s V and Jennie as many claimed the photo looks edited.
When BTS members launched personal Instagram accounts in December of last year, dating rumors between V and Jennie broke out. All of BTS followed only members and BTS’s official accounts. However, V was caught following Jennie.
Recognizing this, V hastily unfollowed Jennie, but it was already too late because fans already screenshot his following. V then went onto the fan community Weverse to indirectly explain that he only accidentally followed Jennie. He said, “Is there any way to get rid of recommendations on Instagram? What a scary app.”
However, after the Jeju photos of V and Jennie were released, some of their Instagram posts were found to be strangely overlapping, sparking a suspicion of Lovestagram. V shared photos of his trip to Jeju Island, and changed his profile name to ‘V’. A theory then immediately arose as to whether he was matching with Jennie’s Instagram name ‘J’.
On August 23rd, a photo of V in a mirror taken by a woman standing behind him started circulating on social media and online communities. The original poster claimed that the woman in the photo was Jennie. V’s outfit in the photo matches what he wore when he left for Paris, France to attend the Celine Men’s Summer 2023 Fashion Show.
The woman, believed to be Jennie, had half of her face covered by the phone. However, netizens assumed that she was indeed Jennie because of the same phone case and bracelet on her wrist as seen in photos she herself uploaded. The exact source of the photo remains a mystery. It was allegedly leaked from Jennie’s private Instagram account.
On August 25th, another photo claimed to be Jennie and V appeared. A man and a woman are taking a mirror selfie while wearing matching couple clothes. The place where the photo was taken is presumed to be V’s apartment. It is the same place as some mirror selfies that V personally posted before.
Netizens are questioning YG and Big Hit Music’s silence over V and Jennie’s growing rumors because in the past, Big Hit Music has denied the dating rumors of its artists and YG has also responded to the dating rumors of its idols such as BLACKPINK, saying, “It’s impossible to confirm matters related to their private lives” or “It’s not true.”
When Jennie and EXO’s Kai were reported to be dating in 2019 by Dispatch, YG admitted that she was seeing Kai “with good feelings”. In response to her dating rumors with BIGBANG’s G-Dragon, YG released a statement saying, “We can’t confirm our artists’ private lives”. Big Hit also quickly summarized the situation as “groundless” over rumors of RM’s marriage, Jungkook’s dating rumors, and V’s rumored romantic relationship with a chaebol’s daughter.
Both Jennie and V are globally top idols, so their relationship cannot easily be outed. If the artists themselves don’t want their personal life to be disclosed to the public, the agency will have to follow the artist’s wishes. Above all, the two have a lot of advertisement contracts, and there are usually penalties related to scandals in such contracts, so they probably have no choice but to remain silent in consideration of various circumstances.
