Cultural critic and practicing lawyer explain why “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is so popular

Experts shared their thoughts on the hit K-drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.

On the August 11th broadcast of KBS2’s program “Entertainment Live”, the syndrome-level popularity of the drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” was covered.

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” follows Woo Young Woo, a genius newbie attorney with autism. The drama is gaining explosive popularity, from its filming location to Young Woo’s favorite animal and food, whale and kimbap. The greeting between Woo Young Woo and her best friend Dong Geurami also goes viral.

Currently, the popularity of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is not only limited to Asia but has also spread to North America. There were even proposals for an American remake.

Kim Heon Shik, a cultural critic, analyzed, “Viewers of American OTT are getting tired because there is too much provocative content. I think ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo Young Woo’ is loved because it feels warm and allows people to see the world in a desirable way.”

Practicing lawyer Ha Joo Yeon also praised “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”. She said, “After watching the drama, I felt that the writer really enjoyed writing it and she did a good job. It feels like she was having fun with the law. She used the legal terms correctly. From a lawyer’s point of view, there are inevitably wrong things. But the details are so good that I thought she had worked in law before.
