Crush’s racism controversy, what did BTS J-Hope do wrong?

After Crush’s controversy, the heat was on BTS J-Hope.

J-Hope pressed “Like” on Crush’s “post explaining the racism controversy” uploaded on Instagram on Oct 10th. Regarding this, some overseas netizens are showing discomfort.

The controversy arose when a foreign fan who watched the performance posted a video on Twitter. The fan claimed that there was racial discrimination at the “2022 SOMEDAY PLEROMA” festival held at Yonsei University’s open-air theater on Oct 9th. The foreign fan criticized, “He touched the hands of all the audience next to us, only we were ignored, and he skipped us. He refused to touch our hands because we had dark skin.”

Later, Crush made a post on his Instagram to explain the situation. He said, “I wanted to get nearer to my fans even a little bit and gave them high-fives. However, fans were getting too close to the fences, so I made a quick judgment not to approach for the safety of my fans.”

He added, “This gesture seems to have been misunderstood as an intention to refuse high-fives. I feel so upset and heavy-hearted because it seems like my effort to get closer to fans had led to misunderstandings and disappointed them.”
