Celebrities Facing the ‘Spousal Risk’: From Lee Sun-kyun & Jeon Hye-jin to Lee Seung-gi & Lee Da-in
These artists are caught up in trouble caused by their spouses
On October 20th, the drug investigation case that had been making headlines revealed that the top star ‘L’ is actor Lee Sun-kyun.
On this day, Lee Sun-kyun’s agency Hodu & U Entertainment officially stated, “We are currently verifying the exact facts regarding the suspicions raised against Lee Sun-kyun, and we intend to sincerely cooperate with any investigations that may take place in the future.”
The previous day, on the 19th, the Incheon Provincial Police Agency announced an investigation into eight individuals, including top star ‘L,’ for suspected violations of the Act on the Management of Narcotic Drugs and to the Punishment of Violations thereof. The identity of the person originally reported as ‘top star L’ was narrowed down to Lee Sun-kyun through the keyword ‘2001 MBC sitcom appearance.’ Following Lee Sun-kyun’s agency’s official statement, disappointment towards him has grown.
Another figure hit by the fallout of Lee Sun-kyun’s controversy is his wife, Jeon Hye-jin. Previously, the two worked as child education content couple models, but currently, those advertisements have been suspended. Moreover, the controversy surrounding Lee Sun-kyun is expected to affect Jeon Hye-jin’s acting career as well.
Singer and actor Lee Seung-gi also faced controversy once after announcing his marriage to Lee Da-in. The two, who held their wedding in April, subsequently became the center of criticism due to allegations of Lee Da-in’s father’s stock price manipulation and wedding PPL issues.
In response, Lee Seung-gi directly addressed the situation through his social media, saying, “Even my closest friends advised me to ‘think about your image’ and recommended that we break up. It was frustrating. It wasn’t my wife’s choice to make… but how can I break up over a parental issue?” He continued, “My wife, Lee Da-in, and I made a promise before we got married. We said, ‘Let’s live by paying off our debts together.’ We will take care of those in need and look after those who are suffering even more. This commitment will be kept, regardless of ‘malicious comments.'”
Furthermore, group Fin.K.L member and actress Sung Yu-ri was also embroiled in her husband, former professional golfer and businessman Ahn Sung-hyun’s controversy. Previously, Ahn Sung-hyun faced allegations related to backdoor trading of a cryptocurrency coin. He is accused of receiving tens of billions of won from a cryptocurrency company for offering to list their cryptocurrency on the Bithumb exchange. He also faces charges of receiving 2 billion won in cash from Kang, the CEO who requested the listing. However, he was indicted without detention last month.
As these allegations came to light, the spotlight turned to Sung Yu-ri. At the time, while appearing on KBS2’s “Can Breakups Be Recalled?” Sung Yu-ri had no activities after the program ended, as she had terminated her exclusive contract with her previous agency Initial Entertainment after the program.
