BTS Jimin’s “Like Crazy” receives gold certificate from the US’s RIAA, new record for Kpop solo

Jimin, a member of BTS, has achieved yet another milestone in the United States with his explosive popularity.

According to Chart Data, which reports real-time music market news worldwide, Jimin’s “Like Crazy” has surpassed 500,000 units sold in the United States.

With such a number, Jimin’s “Like Crazy” has received a gold certificate from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Previously, Jimin had achieved RIAA gold certification for three solo songs included in BTS’s albums, including “Lie”, “Serendipity (Full Length Edition), and “Filter”. With “Like Crazy”, he has set an unprecedented record in Kpop history with four solo songs achieving the US RIAA’s gold certificate.

Notably, “Like Crazy” achieved this valuable accomplishment in just 33 days after its release, 48 days faster than the previous record of 81 days. This is the shortest time for a solo song released by a Korean solo artist. As such, the success of “Like Crazy”, which captures Jimin’s inner self solely through his voice, without collaboration with famous pop singers, is particularly noteworthy.

Debuting at number one on the Billboard “Hot 100” chart, “Like Crazy” caused a sensation in the United States with 254,000 sales at the time. It ranked third in overall weekly sales, behind Taylor Swift’s “Anti Hero” (328,000) and BTS’s “Dynamite” (300,000), and first in 2023 weekly sales records.

According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the United States, the world’s largest music market, is one of the most challenging music markets for artists to succeed in, particularly for non-English-speaking artists. However, Jimin has broken barriers in the United States with “Like Crazy”, achieving astronomical success and becoming an icon and legend among Korean artists.

At the same time Jimin’s “Like Crazy” had set the highest weekly sales record for a Korean solo artist in US history, and ranked third highest in weekly sales for all singles in the United States over the past decade.

As of the moment, Jimin’s “Like Crazy” is still performing well on various charts worldwide, with high rankings on the Billboard main chart, as well as in other music markets such as Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. As a solo artist, Jimin continues to receive high expectations and interest for his musical capabilities and achievements.
