BTS concert in Busan criticized over inadequate preparations for concert-goers

Amid controversies about soaring accomodation costs and transportation disruptions ahead of BTS’ Busan concert, netizens also criticize Busan’s lacking control measures.

On September 15th, BTS will hold their free concert “Yet To Come” in Busan to promote South Korea’s bid for the 2030 World Expo. The concert will be held in a special venue with a capacity of 100,000 people.

As BTS’ concert approaches, it is expected that many fans will flock to the Busan area. Accordingly, the surrounding commercial district is expected to enjoy the “BTS effect”.

On the other hand, as a large number of 100,000 people will flock to the event venue, traffic disruption is inevitable, while the price of lodging facilities in the area soars to 950,000 won per night, and existing reservations are unilaterally canceled.

In this regard, the city of Busan said on August 28th that: “On the 24th, we held the first working-level meeting with the Busan Police Agency and the Busan Fire Safety Headquarters and intensively checked the current issues related to the BTS performance. We plan to allow spectators to enter gradually so that they do not crowd all at once and disperse the crowd leaving after the concert.”

He continued: “On the day of the concert, we plan to increase the number of urban railroads and city buses, deploy shuttle buses, completely block traffic on narrow roads from Ilgwang Station on the Donghae Nambu Line to the venue, and allow all visitors to walk for about 15 minutes.”

However, despite the aforementioned measures, netizens are pouring out criticism and concerns, such as: “Then, are you saying that you will leave by the next day?”, “What if there are no convenience facilities near the concert hall?”, “We are worried about the stream of 100,000 people”, and “We need more realistic measures”.
