BLACKPINK won 2 awards at the MTV VMAs, “Thank you, BLINK”

Lisa, a member of K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, won two awards at the “2022 MTV Video Music Awards,” one of the major pop music awards in the U.S.

BLACKPINK received the “Best Metaverse Performance” award, which is newly established this year, at the “2022 MTV VMAs” held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey on the morning of August 29th (KST).

Lisa was given the award at the “2022 MTV VMAs” red carpet and pre-show held before the main awards ceremony. BLACKPINK won the award with their PUBG MOBILE in-game concert.

As virtual concerts have been on the rise recently, the 2022 MTV VMAs, which is known as one of the four major local pop music awards, quickly introduces this new award category. Global supergroup BTS was also nominated in the same category for their performance in Minecraft.

Other candidates were also prominent, including Charlie XCX, who performed in Roblox, Justin Bieber, who held a concert using metaverse technology on the virtual entertainment platform Wave, Ariana Grande, who held a “Rift Tour” in Fortnite, and Twenty One Pilots, who also performed in Roblox.

In addition, BLACKPINK member Lisa received the “Best K-pop” for her solo song “Lalisa” released in September last year at the main awards ceremony. Lisa is the first solo artist to receive this award, beating other prominent candidates such as BTS’ “Yet To Come”, SEVENTEEN’s “Hot,” ITZY’s “Loco,” Stray Kids’ “Maniac” and TWICE’s “The Feels.”

BLACKPINK Lisa said, “We are grateful to both BLINK (BLACKPINK fandom name) and MTV VMAs for giving us this award. Thanks to our fans that we are able to be here today,” she shared in her speech.

We will do our best to show you better performances in the future. We will repay our fans through our second full album ‘Born Pink’ (which is scheduled to be released on September 16) and world tour.”

Lisa also lifted the trophy and said, “Thank you Teddy, YG, and all the staff who worked on my solo project together. Thank you to BLINK and all of mye members.” The other members of BLACKPINK, Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé, who were watching Lisa’s award on the spot, shared the joy together with Lisa.

In particular, BLACKPINK performed as the first K-pop girl group to do so at the awards ceremony. The song they choose is the pre-release song of their second full album “Born Pink,” “Pink Venom,” which was released on August 19th.

The performance began with a drop of pink poison falling from the fangs, the symbolic image of “Born Pink,” and spreading on the floor. The four members, dressed in black outfits, did not lose their elegance even though they performed dynamic choreography to the intense music. The smoke on stage created a dreamy atmosphere.

YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s agency, said, “The intro, which was rearranged to be more intense than the original ‘Pink Venom’, increased the audience’s concentration at the beginning, after which the members heated the audience with their unwavering live skills, unique hip-hop swag, and performance.”

BLACKPINK was also on the red carpet the same they. The four members of BLACKPINK appeared in black dresses, showing off their impressive elegance. Amid their fans’ cheering, the four members responded with calm yet lovely smiles and gestures.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is gaining popularity on various global charts with “Pink Venom” and its music video.

The song reached No. 2 on the Spotify Top Song Global Weekly Chart, the highest ever for a K-Pop song. The song also entered the UK Official Singles Chart at number 22. In addition, the music video for “Pink Venom” reached 100 million views at the fastest speed (29 hours and 35 minutes) among K-pop girl groups on YouTube and exceeded 200 million views in seven and a half days. The number of subscribers of their YouTube channel is on the verge of reaching 80 million, which is the first among artists worldwide.
