BLACKPINK Takes the Stage at Coachella with Traditional Korean Elements

BLACKPINK put Korea on the map while standing on the biggest music festival stage in the US, Coachella.

On April 16th (Korean time), BLACKPINK appeared on the stage of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival  in the US, performing in front of 125,000 audiences.

Coachella Festival is held in Coachella Valley, California, and BLACKPINK was appointed as the headliner this year alongside Bad Bunny and Frank Ocean, making it the first record for a K-pop artist.

BLACKPINK opened the stage with “Pink Venom” and sang their hit songs such as “Kill This Love,” “How You Like That,” and “Pretty Savage,” as well as performing solo songs.

What particularly caught the audience’s attention on BLACKPINK’s stage were the Korean elements, from Jennie’s jacket reminiscent of Hanbok to the blue set and the fan dance. In addition, a large Taegukgi flag brought by an audience member was combined with BLACKPINK’s stage setup, shining brightly.

After completing their performance, BLACKPINK said their ending ment in Korean, “Until now, it has been Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé BLACKPINK. Thank you,” and left the stage.

As BLACKPINK members communicated fluently in English throughout the performance, they also evoked emotions by using Korean for their final greeting, just like the representative K-pop group they are.
