Koo Jun Yup’s wife Barbie Hsu’s former mother-in-law reportedly owes 980 million yuan (about 186 billion won).
On March 22, it was reported that Zhang Lan, a businesswoman and Barbie Hsu’s ex-mother-in-law, has a debt of 980 million yuan (approximately 186 billion won) and was planning to transfer the inheritance trust fund to her son, Wang Xiaofei.
According to several Chinese media outlets, Zhang Lan incurred this debt after selling her luxury restaurant business. As a result, the New York apartment under Zhang Lan’s name was transferred to CVC, which had purchased the restaurant.
Subsequently, Zhang Lan’s overseas trust fund was also used to pay off the debt. Wang Xiaofei was later identified as the beneficiary of this trust fund.
The court ruling was made in 2019, and Zhang Lan must pay off her debts within four years. If the family trust fund is considered Zhang Lan’s personal property, CVC, her creditor, could request a confiscation order for the trust fund.
Zhang Lan has stated that she is considering appealing the ruling and will appeal to the Singaporean court. Prior to this, Zhang Lan has made live broadcasts, where she has openly criticized and spread rumors about Barbie Hsu and Koo Jun Yup.
Zhang Lan even accused Barbie Hsu of drug use and of marrying Koo Jun Yup without completing her divorce proceedings in China. She also claimed that Barbie Hsu could be taken to the court for a blood test.
Zhang Lan’s live broadcasts slandering Barbie Hsu and Koo Jun Yup were also used as a means of selling her merchandise, which is reported to have sold for approximately 200 million yuan (about 375 billion won).
Barbie Hsu and Wang Xiaofei divorced last November after being married for ten years. Afterward, Barbie Hsu reunited with her former lover, Koo Jun Yup, and they announced their marriage in February of last year.
