“Are you teasing him” Viewers complained and criticized the 2022 SBS Entertainment Awards for using Ji Suk Jin to gain attention
Viewers are pouring out harsh criticism toward SBS Entertainment Awards.
The 2022 SBS Entertainment Awards was held at SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on December 17th.
The Daesang (Grand Prize) trophy was given to “Running Man” Yoo Jae Suk. Yoo Jae Suk has always been a prominent candidate for Daesang, enough to make people say, “If it’s hard to decide the Daesang winner, just give it to Yoo Jae Suk”. Daesang nominee Tak Jae Hoon also said, “As long as Yoo Jae Suk and Shin Dong Yeop are still on the nomination list, I will have to stay anxious until the end.”
There is no big problem with Yoo Jae Suk as he is already qualified for Daesang. The problem is the process of the 2022 SBS Entertainment Awards announcing Yoo Jae Suk as the Daesang winner, which made viewers feel uncomfortable.
Throughout the awards ceremony, there were times when the 2022 SBS Entertainment Awards production team made everyone think the Daesang trophy would go to one of the two candidates, Tak Jae Hoon and Ji Suk Jin.
In fact, Tak Jae Hoon was considered a strong candidate for Daeasang as he has been active on popular programs, such as “My Little Old Boy” and “Dolsing Fourman”. Jang Do Yeon and Lee Hyun Yi, who co-hosted the 2022 SBS Entertainment Awards with Tak Jae Hoon, drew laughter as they kept commenting, “Why are you so nervous?”, “Calm down”, etc. In the end, Tak Jae Hoon was given the Producer Award. Delivering his acceptance speech, Tak Jae Hoon said, “I’m happy that you helped me end this pain quickly”.
In the meantime, another Daesang candidate Ji Suk Jin added fun to the awards ceremony with his witty comment, “I didn’t expect anything, but seeing other names getting called one by one makes me think of a possibility”.
In the second half of the awards ceremony, the atmosphere that Tak Jae Hoon or Ji Suk Jin might possibly become Daesang winner continued.
Of course, this kind of atmosphere can be created and used as a material in an appropriate way to draw laughter since it is an entertainment awards ceremony. Even Ji Suk Jin joined and gave viewers a pleasant time. However, viewers later expressed disappointment, pointing out that the production team only wanted to tease Ji Suk Jin and used him to arouse attention.
After Tak Jae Hoon won Producer Award, everyone suddenly focused on Ji Suk Jin. Award presenter Shin Dong Yeop, who did not even know the result, even mentioned Ji Suk Jin before he announced the winner. Yoo Jae Suk was also surprised when his name was revealed as the winner, he even said “I feel so sorry to Seok Jin hyung” in his acceptance speech.
While Yoo Jae Suk was on the stage to deliver his acceptance speech, the hosts said, “‘Running Man’ team, please come up here to congratulate him. Please come up here together”. Instead of going up the stage, ‘Running Man’ members stayed downstage and applauded Yoo Jae Suk. After Yoo Jae Suk finished his speech, the hosts urged ‘Running Man’ team to go on the stage again.
If the 2022 SBS Entertainment Awards wanted to give Daesang to the whole “Running Man” team, they should have done it like how they gave the group Daesang to “My Little Old Boy” last year. Above all, viewers felt more uncomfortable when the hosts suggested Ji Suk Jin hold the Daesang trophy.
Ji Suk Jin was also nominated for Daesang last year but only received Honorary Employee Award. Therefore, viewers voiced criticism towards the production team of the 2022 SBS Entertainment Awards, which seems to have made fun of Ji Suk Jin for two consecutive years, saying “Why are you doing this to Ji Suk Jin?”, “Is this an award ceremony designed to tease Ji Suk Jin?”, “They are so rude to the candidates”, etc.
