Actors Doubted Themselves But Proved Their Abilities With Awards: Seo Ji-hye, Jang Dong-yoon And More
The 2023 KBS Drama Awards held at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Yeondeung-po, Seoul on December 31st ended successfully with Choi Soo-jong winning Daesang for “Korea–Khitan War”.
In 2023, KBS introduced various dramas of different genres, from miniseries to weekend dramas, daily dramas and even one-acts.
“Korea–Khitan War” and “Oasis” made headlines as each team won seven awards. In particular, Choi Soo-jong of “Korea–Khitan War” was even honored with Daesang. Among the winners, some actors had doubted themselves and their abilities before but they finally proved their talents with the trophies at this award ceremony.
First of all, former “Heart Signal” actress Seo Ji-hye was awarded Best New Actress for her performance in “My Perfect Stranger”. She said, “I thought people standing in this place all had high confidence and loved themselves so I made myself suffer a a harder time physically and mentally than anyone else. I questioned whether I was qualified to be an actress, but I believe that those worries and struggles have made me who I am today. That’s why I want to appreciate myself for enduring well and overcoming those hard times.”
“Oasis” Seol In-ah, who became a triple crown winner with Excellence Award, Best Couple and Popularity Award, also pressured herself with the same concerns. She shared, “I never take any award lightly and I envied people who received them. Now that I’m receiving one, I’m so happy that I think I’m about to cry. I’m not that confident in myself but I think I can gain strength from this award”, adding “I like writing diaries, and I used to comfort myself and scold myself a lot. These days, I’ve mostly written about regrets, the past and lingering feelings, perhaps it’s the end of the year. I hope we can all overcome such feelings with love.”
Baek Jin-hee, who received Best Couple and Excellence Award, for “The Real Has Come!”, also confessed that she often criticized herself and doubted whether she could call herself an actress and promised to become a better actor who could carry the weight of the awards. With two awards, “Oasis” Jang Dong-yoon also shared that he thought he was not good enough to be called an actor.
Choi Yoon-young, who won Excellence Award for Actress in a Daily Drama for “Woman in a Veil“, also relieved her worries about being an actress, saying “This award is very meaningful to me and I think it will encourage me to do well and endure harder.”
