Veteran actor Kim Yoon-seok and actor Kim Seon-ho are set to share the screen in tvN’s upcoming drama “The Congressman Who Guards Me”, marking one of the most anticipated casting pairings of the year.
The drama is based on a popular web novel of the same name and will be broadcast on tvN. It tells a fantasy-political story about a powerful congressman who returns as a ghost after death and teams up with a low-ranking civil servant to change fate and navigate the political world.
The story follows Gu Young-jin, a highly skilled politician who becomes a ghost after death and seeks revenge and redemption. He then partners with Cha Jae-rim, an inexperienced 9th-grade civil servant who is suddenly pulled into the chaotic world of politics.
Kim Yoon-seok will take on the role of Gu Young-jin, marking his long-awaited return to television dramas after approximately 20 years. His character is described as a “political mastermind congressman” who continues his plans even after becoming a ghost.
Kim Seon-ho will play Cha Jae-rim, a politically inexperienced government worker who gets unexpectedly entangled with the ghost congressman and is forced into a world far beyond his control.
The drama is directed by Park Shin-woo, known for acclaimed works such as It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and Our Unwritten Seoul, while the script is written by Kwon Jong-kwan, who previously worked on Confession of the Murder. The combination of experienced creators has raised expectations for both storytelling and production quality.
Originally serialized on KakaoPage from 2021 to 2024, The Congressman Who Guards Me gained popularity for its fast-paced narrative and unique blend of political intrigue and fantasy elements. It was later adapted into a webtoon before finally being developed into a television drama.
With its high-profile casting and genre-blending storyline, the series is already drawing attention as one of tvN’s most anticipated upcoming releases, especially with the return of Kim Yoon-seok to the small screen and Kim Seon-ho’s first drama in five years.
