After years of silence, Song Hye Kyo has finally opened up about the real reason behind her divorce from Song Joong Ki. According to reports, the actress admitted that their marriage fell apart due to differences in views on having children.
Back in 2019, Song Joong Ki shocked the public by announcing his divorce from Song Hye Kyo, ending what many considered a “real-life fairytale romance” after just 1 year and 8 months of marriage.

At the time, countless rumors and conspiracy theories flooded social media. Some speculated that Song Hye Kyo had crossed certain boundaries, leading Song Joong Ki to demolish their luxurious newlywed home. Others claimed Song Joong Ki was at fault, accusing him of wrongdoing. Despite the intense speculation, both stars remained silent for years, never revealing the true reason behind their split.
According to Chinese outlet 163, Song Hye Kyo recently addressed the issue during an event. She revealed that the couple had major differences regarding having children and their overall life plans.

Song Joong Ki reportedly grew up in a traditional family that placed strong importance on having children. After marriage, he wanted to start a family quickly, believing that a complete household with children was essential to happiness.
On the other hand, Song Hye Kyo held a very different perspective. Her parents divorced when she was just 8 years old, which deeply affected her views on marriage. The actress shared that she lacked a sense of security and believed that a couple should first build a strong emotional foundation before considering having children.

Moreover, following the massive success of Descendants of the Sun, Song Hye Kyo did not want to interrupt her flourishing career to focus on pregnancy and motherhood. She firmly stated, “A woman’s value should not be defined by childbirth.” Ultimately, the couple could not find common ground, leading to their separation.
After the divorce, Song Hye Kyo rarely mentioned her ex-husband. It reportedly took her five years to fully heal from the emotional wounds. She found comfort in writing gratitude journals, focusing on appreciating the small joys in life.

Her career also experienced a powerful resurgence thanks to the global success of The Glory. The project marked a turning point, showcasing her transformation from a romance queen to an actress capable of portraying complex, emotionally intense characters.
Meanwhile, Song Joong Ki moved on and built a new family. In January 2023, he remarried actress Katy Louise Saunders and now has two children. Although his career has seen some fluctuations recently, he appears content with his current life choices.
