Chinese singer and actor Lay Zhang has recently become the center of widespread speculation after online bloggers claimed that he had been placed under a temporary broadcast ban in China.
According to several entertainment bloggers, internal documents were allegedly circulated among major digital platforms and television networks stating that Lay Zhang—also known as Zhang Yixing—would be restricted from appearing in entertainment activities. The rumored restrictions reportedly include performances, variety shows, gala appearances, and other public entertainment events.

The controversy reportedly stems from Lay Zhang’s participation in activities as a member of K-pop group EXO. Some bloggers claimed that because he holds a position within a national theater organization in China, he was summoned back to explain his activities. Reports also suggested that Lay Zhang later requested to withdraw from that official affiliation.

Following the rumors, speculation spread that a “soft ban” had been implemented against the artist, with some bloggers claiming the restriction could last up to one year.
However, Lay Zhang’s studio quickly responded by releasing an official statement denying the claims. The statement asserted that the rumors about a broadcast ban were inaccurate and urged the public not to spread unverified information.

Despite the denial, the blogger who originally shared the news later doubled down on their claims, arguing that the studio’s statement avoided addressing the main issue directly. The blogger insisted that such information would not have been published publicly if it were not already circulating among industry insiders.
At the moment, no official confirmation from government regulators or major broadcasters has been released. As a result, the alleged ban remains unverified, and the situation continues to fuel debate among fans and observers of the Chinese entertainment industry.
Lay Zhang is widely recognized as a prominent solo artist in China and a member of EXO. In addition to his music career, he has also built a strong presence in film, television, and business ventures across the Chinese entertainment market.
