Biography

Qian Kun, professionally known as Kun (쿤), is a Chinese singer, songwriter, and producer based in South Korea. He is a member of the South Korean boy group NCT, and its sub-units WayV and NCT U, under SM Entertainment and Label V. Kun serves as the leader and main vocalist of WayV and is recognized for his vocal ability and leadership within the group.

Early Life and Education

Kun was born Qian Kun on January 1, 1996, in Taining County, Sanming, Fujian, China. He developed an early interest in music and performance, which eventually led him to pursue an entertainment career. Kun graduated from the Beijing Contemporary Music Institute, where he studied vocal performance and honed his musical skills before his debut in the K-pop industry.

Career

Pre-Debut and SMROOKIES (2015–2018)

Kun’s entertainment journey began in 2015, when he was accepted into SM Entertainment through the SM Global Audition held in Guangzhou, China. Following his acceptance, he was introduced as a member of SMROOKIES, SM Entertainment’s pre-debut training team, in December 2015. During this period, he trained in singing, dance, and performance, preparing for his official debut.

In 2016, Kun recorded the Chinese version of NCT U’s single “Without You”, marking his first official involvement in an NCT project before his formal debut.

Debut with NCT and WayV (2018–present)

Kun officially joined NCT’s expanding lineup in 2018 and participated in the NCT 2018 project. He gained public recognition as part of the global NCT collective and was later announced as a member of WayV, a China-based sub-unit of NCT managed by Label V. WayV debuted on January 17, 2019, with their first digital single album, The Vision, marking Kun’s official debut in the Korean entertainment industry.

Within WayV, Kun serves as leader and main vocalist, contributing to the group’s musical direction and performance quality. The unit has released multiple albums and toured internationally, solidifying its place in both the Chinese and global music markets.

Activities with NCT U and Sub-Units

In October 2020, Kun debuted with NCT U a rotational sub-unit of NCT participating in the NCT 2020 project with songs such as “From Home.” He has also formed a duet sub-unit with fellow WayV member Xiaojun, known as WayV-KUN&XIAOJUN, releasing collaborative music like “Back to You” in 2021.
