Dee Hsu DJ Koo

According to Taiwanese outlet ETtoday on February 2, Dee Hsu spoke at the completion and unveiling ceremony of Barbie Hsu’s memorial sculpture, held at the Chin Pao San Memorial Park in New Taipei City. During her remarks, she said tearfully, “I sincerely thank my brother-in-law.”

Family members, relatives, and close friends of Barbie Hsu gathered at the site that day to honor her memory on the first anniversary of her death. The memorial sculpture was personally designed by DJ Koo, who has long been known to paint, and it reflects his deep love and longing for his late wife. Beside the sculpture stands a silver memorial stone engraved with the letter “S,” symbolizing Barbie Hsu’s name and the promise to remember her forever.

While delivering her eulogy, Dee Hsu repeatedly broke down in tears as she spoke about DJ Koo. “I want to thank my brother-in-law for creating such a beautiful sculpture for my sister,” she said. “I hope that everyone who loved my sister can come here whenever they miss her, see her, and talk to her.”

As rain fell throughout the ceremony, adding to the somber atmosphere, Dee Hsu lightened the mood with a gentle joke, saying, “If today had been bright and sunny, that wouldn’t really have been my sister’s style.”

She went on to confess that whenever she feels overwhelmed by the pain of losing her sister, she finds comfort in remembering that DJ Koo was by Barbie Hsu’s side during the last three years of her life. “When I think about that, my heart slowly feels more at ease,” she said.

Describing DJ Koo, Dee Hsu said, “He is someone who truly loved my sister, someone who desired nothing and sought nothing except love.” She added, “When I think that there was a person who protected my sister with such a pure and simple heart—without calculation, without stray thoughts, without impurities—I feel like I can endure this pain. That’s why I am truly grateful to my brother-in-law.” Her words reportedly moved the entire venue to tears.

Broadcaster and writer Kevin Tsai, a close friend of Barbie Hsu during her lifetime, also delivered a eulogy. “Today I saw your sculpture,” he said. “It is made of bronze and marble—strong materials. As I looked at it, I sighed quietly in my heart. You deserved to be cared for, but fate kept demanding that you be strong. Then let us be strong, my friend. The beautiful traces you left behind cannot be erased even by death. There is no strength more beautiful than this.”

After unveiling the memorial sculpture, DJ Koo also shared a handwritten letter to Barbie Hsu on his Instagram. In the letter, he wrote, “To my eternal love, my everything, Barbie. When I sit blankly on the corner of the bed in an empty room in the morning, I still can’t tell if this is reality or a dream. I wish it were a dream, and my chest grows heavy and painful.” He ended the letter with, “Barbie, my love. When we meet again, let’s be together forever and ever. I miss you. I miss you so much it hurts.”
