Koo Jun-yup Barbie Hsu memorial

On February 2, Koo Jun-yup posted images of a handwritten letter addressed to Barbie Hsu on his Instagram. He began the letter with the words, “To my eternal love, my everything, Barbie,” before asking softly, “How are you there?” He went on to confess that he worries constantly about her—whether she is cold or hot—and described moments of sitting alone on the edge of an empty bed, unsure whether his reality is a dream he wishes he could wake up from, his chest aching with sorrow.

Koo also wrote about his daily routine of cooking while thinking of what Barbie Hsu might like, then driving to Chin Pao San Memorial Park with food in hand. “Every time I go there, tears fall endlessly because I miss you so much,” he wrote. Apologizing for showing such vulnerability, he added that expressing his grief this way is the only way he knows how to endure the pain of losing her.

He ended the letter with a heartbreaking message: “Barbie, when we meet again, let’s stay together forever. I miss you. I miss you so much it hurts. I miss you to death. From your forever Kwang-to oppa, Jun-jun.

The same day, a memorial sculpture commemorating the first anniversary of Barbie Hsu’s death was unveiled at Chin Pao San Memorial Park in New Taipei City. The ceremony was attended by Koo Jun-yup, Barbie Hsu’s mother, her younger sister Dee Hsu, and close friends. Koo appeared visibly thinner and emotionally worn, drawing concern from fans.

The sculpture, titled “Barbie’s Eternal Orbit,” was personally designed by Koo Jun-yup. He explained that Barbie Hsu often joked that she was “an alien from another planet,” which inspired him to create a galaxy just for her. The artwork features nine cubes symbolizing the nine planets, including the sun—nine being a number Barbie cherished as a symbol of good luck. The sculpture faces south at 208 degrees, toward Taipei, symbolically watching over her family and Koo Jun-yup. The number 208 also represents their wedding anniversary, February 8.
