The unveiling ceremony took place at 2 p.m. local time on February 2 at the Chin Pao San Memorial Park in Jinshan District, New Taipei City, within the renowned artists’ memorial area.
The ceremony was attended by DJ Koo himself, Barbie Hsu’s younger sister Dee Hsu, their mother, and many of the late actress’s closest friends who had shared decades of friendship with her. Kang Won Rae, DJ Koo’s longtime partner from the duo Clon, also attended the event in a wheelchair, showing his support and respect.
The sculpture, which DJ Koo designed as a deeply personal tribute to his late wife, depicts Barbie Hsu with a youthful, almost girl-like appearance. She is shown with her hands gently clasped in front of her chest, eyes closed, and a peaceful smile on her face, conveying serenity and eternal rest. The artwork moved many attendees, as it reflected not only her image but also the love and longing her husband continues to hold.

According to local media outlet ETtoday, the moment the covering was removed and the sculpture was revealed, Barbie Hsu’s mother could no longer hold back her tears. She embraced the statue tightly, sobbing, while DJ Koo stepped forward to comfort his mother-in-law, holding her in a quiet moment of shared grief.
The ceremony was hosted by Dee Hsu and included members of Barbie Hsu’s close celebrity circle, often referred to as the “Seven Princesses,” including Aya Liu and Mavis Fan. Several of them broke down during their memorial speeches, struggling to continue through tears. Even amid the somber atmosphere, Dee Hsu reportedly tried to lighten the moment with gentle jokes, staying true to her sister’s spirit. The event concluded with attendees singing Mavis Fan’s song Sisters’ Gathering, which both sisters had once participated in, before embracing one another and reminiscing about the late star.

Barbie Hsu and DJ Koo, who were lovers more than 20 years ago, reunited and married in 2022 after decades apart. Tragically, during a family trip to Japan last year, she contracted influenza that led to acute pneumonia and severe complications, resulting in her sudden passing. Her death shocked fans across Taiwan and South Korea. At the time, DJ Koo expressed his grief, saying he was enduring “indescribable sorrow and pain, as if my heart were being torn apart.”

The unveiling of the memorial sculpture stands as a quiet yet powerful testament to enduring love, loss, and remembrance, honoring Barbie Hsu’s life through the hands and heart of the man who loved her most.
