On the October 18 broadcast of SBS’s variety show My Little Old Boy , Kim Junsu , often dubbed the “Prince of the Musical Theater World,” appeared as a special MC and shared deeply personal stories from his past.
During the episode, Kim Junsu unveiled the penthouse he purchased for 4.8 billion won. Expressing his strong attachment to his home, he explained, “It’s because I grew up in an extremely poor environment.” He continued, “My childhood was far more difficult than people might think. My family lived in a semi-basement, but it wasn’t even a properly structured place like the one shown in the movie Parasite.”

He went on to shock viewers with further details, saying, “There was no bathroom, so I would lay newspaper down and urinate in the sink. Even the kitchen required us to go outside.” He added that “it was closer to a storage room than a real home.”
These experiences fueled his intense desire to succeed. Kim Junsu shared, “Even after debuting, I lived in dorms for a long time, so before buying a home for myself, I wanted to secure a house for my parents first,” revealing that he had gifted them a home before purchasing his own.

This was not the first time he spoke about this meaningful decision. In May of last year, during Channel A’s variety show A Table For Four , Kim Junsu was asked what his most meaningful purchase had been. He replied, “The 100-pyeong house I bought for my parents.” At the time, he also expressed his gratitude, saying, “I know that who I am today is thanks to my parents, so I wanted to repay them.”
Born in 1986, Kim Junsu has now entered his forties. After debuting at just 17 years old, he continues to receive widespread love from the public with a more mature and seasoned presence. Currently, Kim Junsu is starring as the lead in the musical Beetlejuice and shared that he plans to remain actively engaged in various projects moving forward.
