Actress Lee Yu-ri shared candid details about her playful rivalry with close friend Park Ha-na during the filming of the 2016 KBS2 drama The Promise. Despite maintaining a close friendship after the show ended, Lee Yu-ri revealed on the December 10 episode of tvN STORY’s What’s the Point of Leaving It Behind? that the tension between them even led her to miss Park Ha-na’s wedding.

During the broadcast, Park Ha-na explained, “We were filming The Promise. I played the villain and ended up taking the man from her character, and Lee Yu-ri’s character sought revenge on both of us. I tried to protect him, which meant tormenting her character.”
Lee Yu-ri admitted, “When actresses meet, there’s bound to be a power struggle. Ha-na really did engage in a power struggle with me, and I could see it clearly.”

Co-host Kim Sook expressed surprise, saying, “I’ve never heard of actresses having power struggles before.” Park Ha-na added, “After Lee Yu-ri won the award for her role as Yeon Min-jung, I thought, ‘This is my chance to challenge Yu-ri.’ I was a rookie then, so I thought maybe if I outperformed her, it would help me grow. It seems ridiculous now, but I truly thought that at the time.”
Lee Yu-ri explained their competitive spirit extended to on-screen performance: “I knew she wanted to dominate the screen, and I tried to do the same. It was all part of our roles.” She even praised Park Ha-na for her dedication during a scene involving a staircase, demonstrating how she rolled gracefully to appear better on camera.

When asked why she missed Park Ha-na’s wedding, Lee Yu-ri explained that a fixed program schedule prevented her from attending, and she expressed regret, “I tried to adjust my schedule until the last moment, but it didn’t work out. I feel really sorry.” Park Ha-na responded with understanding, noting that weddings are hectic and it’s hard to know who attended without watching the footage.
Park Ha-na married former basketball coach Kim Tae-sul in June and previously shared glimpses of her newlywed life on SBS’s variety show Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny.
