Taiwanese music icon Jay Chou has been battling ankylosing spondylitis for many years, according to his personal trainer, nicknamed Hulk, who recently shared details of the singer’s struggles with HK01.
Hulk revealed that the chronic spinal condition has caused Jay Chou extreme pain at times, even leaving him unable to walk without assistance during flare-ups. Recently, the star has been dedicated to exercise and physical training to strengthen his health and manage his condition.

The trainer also shared the story of how they met. Through mutual connections with singer Liu Genghong, Hulk became Jay Chou’s private trainer. He praised Jay Chou as a kind and generous person, recalling how the singer has supported him in various aspects of life. Notably, Hulk was invited to serve as a groomsman at Jay Chou’s wedding in the U.K.
According to the Taiwan Central Research Institute, ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the spinal joints. Tendon and ligament attachment points may develop bone spurs, eventually fusing vertebrae and reducing flexibility. While anti-inflammatory medications can manage symptoms, there is currently no cure for the disease.

Born in 1979, Jay Chou is a talented Taiwanese singer, songwriter, and musician. Over his career, he has released 14 albums and performed six world tours, totaling over 300 concerts. He has won 15 Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan and is known for hits such as Blue and White Porcelain, Rice Field, Love Confession, and Shouldn’t Be.
Despite his condition, Jay Chou continues to perform and maintain a rigorous schedule, inspiring fans with his resilience. His story highlights the importance of awareness, regular exercise, and proactive health management for chronic conditions.
