Dee Hsu, MC and younger sister of late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, became emotional while participating in a New Year countdown broadcast at Taipei 101. This marked her first major public appearance since her sister’s passing.
According to Sohu, during the recording, Dee Hsu cried multiple times, especially while reading the lines: “In past years, I would be in pajamas with my family for the countdown, but this year someone is missing.” She held her hands tightly and fought back tears to complete the broadcast. At the end, she read the inscription on her sister’s tombstone: “Remember Together Forever.”

Dee Hsu admitted to the media that this New Year’s Eve was the hardest night she has ever faced. While filming, she recalled feeling her sister’s presence encouraging her: “We’re still watching the fireworks together and welcoming the New Year as always.”
The sisters had shared family traditions for over 20 years, revealed in previous interviews. No matter how busy, they would avoid work on New Year’s Eve, staying home in pajamas to watch fireworks from Taipei 101.
Fans expressed sympathy and support on Weibo, commenting that Dee Hsu should “get through these difficult days” and that “those who remain should live well for the family left behind.”

Barbie Hsu and Dee Hsu were close, both pursuing careers in Taiwanese showbiz as actresses and MCs without ever having conflicts in work or life.
Barbie Hsu (born 1976) is known for her roles in dramas such as Meteor Garden, Mars, and Summer’s Bubble. Since 2012, she had stepped back from acting, living a private life.
