While the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime continues its global box office domination, a rumored live-action adaptation has taken social media by storm, especially after an image surfaced online showing Kento Yamazaki as the protagonist Kamado Tanjiro.

The viral photo, which appeared on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit, quickly gained hundreds of thousands of interactions from fans worldwide. The post claimed that Netflix had begun pre-production for the Demon Slayer live-action series, reportedly involving the same production team behind One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho.

In the image, Yamazaki appears in Tanjiro’s signature checkered haori — a portrayal that many fans described as “almost too perfect.” The actor, often dubbed Japan’s “live-action king”, is well-known for leading numerous manga-to-screen adaptations, including Alice in Borderland, Kingdom, and Your Lie in April.

Following the photo’s circulation, fans flooded social media with speculation and excitement. Some even suggested that the entire cast of Alice in Borderland should join Yamazaki in the Demon Slayer project.

However, the excitement was short-lived; the image was later confirmed to be AI-generated fan art, not an official still from Netflix. As of now, no official casting announcements have been made for the project.

Many anime enthusiasts also pointed out that Yamazaki, now in his 30s, might not be a realistic fit for Tanjiro, who is only 14 years old in the original story. Others argued that he would better suit the role of Tomioka Giyuu, the Water Hashira, known for his stoic demeanor.

Meanwhile, the Demon Slayer anime continues to soar. The franchise recently entered the “Infinity Castle Arc,” marking the beginning of its climactic storyline. Industry insiders report that the film is expected to secure a theatrical release in China, raising hopes that Demon Slayer could become the first anime franchise to surpass $1 billion USD in global box office revenue.

Even if the Demon Slayer live-action rumors prove false, fans agree on one thing: Kento Yamazaki remains the face of Japan’s live-action era, and his imagined portrayal of Tanjiro shows just how much audiences are craving a faithful, big-scale adaptation of the beloved anime.
